This is great news that you found the problem and more importantly, you had a great successful trip. It's good to read through these threads in case others find themselves with a similar problem and get advise for a solution. If i missed it, I'm sorry but do you have a ride report of your trip? If not, are you going to make one? If you aren't, because they are incredibly time consuming to post, all good. But a picture would be sufficient. Lol.
I started a ride report on Advrider called Mexico Great Lakes or something similar. I haven't finished it because it became a real PITA after our phones were stolen in Thunder Bay. My FB page has a lot of pics and I will gladly accept you as a friend if you send a request. I will eventually finish the advrider ride report.

I tried to put the heat shrink on the coil but with it on it wouldn't fit all the way into the hole. I put plan B into action and sealed the coil into place with silicone (RTV?). The bike is running great. I have been home a week and miss the fun of moving constantly from place to place.
I think my next longish trip will be to Austin next year for the MotoGP.
