I walked up to my bike on its center stand with a note on its tank. The words I hit your bike with my truck and the bike took no damage. My truck looks fine but heres my number in any case. Well right off the bat the windscreen and bracket was off, the hydro res was turn up along with the clutch, the shifter was bent and the side case was chewed up from one corner. It was rideable but the bar is twisted and steering feels looser and is harder to balance at low speeds. I went to the cops but they said its a insurance thing even though he left but said its a dick move because the driver didnt know if it was driveable or had damage. After calling the driver he told me that he backed up into the side case with his tire but that bike took no damage and his rear fender had a dent in it from the tip over. Keep in the mind that driver said that my bike took no damage that he took tell but yet his truck did .

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Easy fix. Call his insurance company and let them know. They will have you take the bike to get an estimate sometimes they make you go to their approved list of shops. Depending on the state you can fight that. My recommendation is to go to the dealer and have the estimate done there.

Once they have the estimate they cut you a check if you own the bike outright, and then you can fix it yourself or have the dealer do it. If there is a loan on the bike that changes things, and they make the check out to the lien holder, the the lien holder pays the repair facility.

One thing to keep in mind, if you do fix it yourself and have no proof of the work being done, if it gets hit again they will claim all of that as pre existing damages.

Sorry you have to go through it man. You got lucky he left a note.

He does not want provide the insurance after calling him and wanted to offer 500 bucks. Well the case alone is 460. I will have to file a police report and get video pulled. They will be able to get a hold of him and his insurance if he even has any. I wont be riding it at all until this gets done might be at leaset a few weeks. The guy over the phone didnt care and just thought about getting home without seeing how i did. This is a first me for getting my bike fixed

Alternatively, you contact your insurance company to get the claim started. Once they look him up and find his insurance, since he admitted fault, they will subrogate the money back from his insurance company. You will pay the deductible up front, but you will get it back via subrogation.

Filing a police report is something you can do at any time, you don't need their permission to do so.

To bad it happened but Very nice of him to leave the contact information
This. You’re lucky OP. I’ve had two vehicles hit and damaged while parked. In neither case did the drivers in question leave a note.

I’m sure that I’d be ticked that this happened, but just keep in mind that you’re lucky you can deal with insurance and that they should get this straightened out for you.

I feel for you. I have had a bike hit by a cement truck and the drive just left it. I got no help from the local law enforcement even though it was evident the cement truck hit it. You could see my center stand marks and the tire marks from the truck! Luckily a private investigator i knew decided to do some investigating. He came up with hard evidence and the law had to take action. Not really though they just told the company to pay up. I was stuck for months trying to get that done. No offence was written up for hit and run or anything. Never got paid what it took to repair the bike just for parts. At least you have a name and admission to the event. Hope the very best for you on the rest of the process.

This where I expected this to end up when I first started reading. Nobody leaves a note if they actually mean to make right; they either contact LE or the stores management. If you have "full coverage" insurance, your insurance company MIGHT go to bat for you; if not, they won't care. Kyle is right about going to his insurance company....if he provided THAT information; there's a good chance he doesn't have any. Most states have insurance info attached to the registration return. If you can get his license plate number, you can get his insurance company. Good luck, I hate hit-n-run drivers.

Its a hit and tip over lol. i couldnt get the plates how ever after trying to work with him he didnt want to provide it. I finally told him that i would file a report and video pulled of the hit. One hour later he texted me a claim number however after speaking with the agent they said what was reported was something else. However i can get the video of the hit and that solves that.

I have heard of front and rear camera that turn when hit so that might have helped.

Would be that easy if had actually wanted to provide it.

Oh, yea. Sorry, I just assumed you had Comp and Collision coverage on your bike. It's a practice I've had for a long time because of these kinds of scenarios.

I only carry liability, and comprehensive on the bike. The way I look at it, with the amount that I save by not have a collision premium, if/when I have a crash that's my fault....I will have saved up enough to repair/replace my bike. On my auto policy, I carry a $50.00 deductible. The annual difference between a $50.00 deductible....and a $500.00 deductible....was less than $20.00.

Get a copy of the video before they erase and/or copy over it. And, I hope it's better quality than what Wal-Mart has.

The guy probably was illegal as hell when it happened. His car might have reeked of weed or he could have been drunk. I hope it works out.

Let your insurance deal with his insurance. They’ll sort it out. They’ll track down his insurance if necessary. Tell the idiot to pay for all damage if he wants to keep his rates down.
