Another thing about the K60s is that I'm averaging 1mpg less with these tires as opposed to the battlewings.

Michelin. PR 4s. From S.W. London, two runs to the Alps and a run through France down to southern Spain (about 8000 miles in total) and the rear still has 3 mm in the center.

I reckon pr4 is a good choice for mileage and awesome grip wet and dry. K60 is a horrible tyre and I gave mine away at 50% wear. Rough, lumpy, poor wet grip, wears flat on the back and cups on the front. Only mediocre on dirt and gravel. They do seem to last a while though so if comfort, grip, usability performance don't matter, the k60 is perfect. Except for the cost of course. Over priced and difficult to fit because of very stiff side walls. Forgot to mention those details.

Because the K60 is proven, on the Super Tenere, to last for the conditions he is discussing. They don't appear to even make ME880s in the correct sizes for the Super Ten, though people have been known to fudge some. Add to that, the ME880 Metzler Marathon that "will go 10k easy" is the bias ply version, not the radial version and the wet traction sucks, even by K60 standards.

I'm going to echo both of EricV's points. Speedwise, I've had the K60s close to 120 mph and they were solid as a rock.

Mileage-wise, I replaced my K60s at 17,000+ miles because they had squared off so badly, but they had lots of tread left. Sail2XX was getting nearly 27,000 miles.

The folks with Mitas tires are reporting nearly the same mileage and less squaring off, so those will be by next set.

Dunno about the Super Tenere, but on my ST1300, I get the best mileage out of the Michelin PR4s. As much as 14K from a rear and 19K from a front. I don't baby them but I try to be very smooth with the throttle and brake. I think this, and inflation pressure, are the most important factors for tire wear. Is the PR4 Trail also a dual compound tire?

Yeah, I've heard of folks burning them up like that on the ST1300 too. Gotta be down to riding conditions / style I guess.
