That's an ipsilateral type of dedicated cornering lights I was talking about and the angle they are set at may be determined by the height from the ground and the flash frequency from oncoming drivers.

it clearly works for Tabasco, but being bar mounted adds to the aiming complexity due to countersteering in a corner. Handy having lights you can move side to side when parked though ::008::
Yes, I'd like one set that moves with the handlebar.

What brand are your cornering lights?

Thanks, OX. Good information... got me thinking...
Tabasco's lights didn't? They gave me serious wood, just need to figure out how he mounted them... :)

He made the brackets; they mount under the hand guard mount.

The S10 isn't the only bike with sucky cornering lighting. I've gotten used to hitting the high beam if I need it and nobody is there to complain.

But what I'd love is some sort of auto-on cornering lights. Could undoubtedly be done with a lean angle sensor, but cost and reliability of actuation are the questions.

I have been looking at this thread closely knowing that I need additional lights for the bike. The stock lights are just not enough in the low beam. I will have to either change the bulbs of the stock headlights to get more light or add an aux light. I will be first changing the main headlight bulbs and then decide whether I need aux. I do not do any offroading as yet, and so I wont need them now. But the weather here seems to be getting better and may just begin doing a bit of offroading/camping in the nights. But im sure even if I change the bulbs from stock to whatever, I will still need aux lights when I do so.

Considering that in mind, have made a simple comparo for me with the for aux lights I think are fine to go with. I am definitely leaning towards the Baja Squadron Pro maybe with an additional cost of the Dimmer. But with all this being said, I realized I will have to fix it myself.

I know little about electricals on the bike and so would have to study electricals well. I read in one of the post that we should connect it to the Aux which I suppose is 3Amp. Do you think this would suffice?

The first thing I would recommend is converting the headlights to Morimoto Elite HIDs. The low beams will be much better and the high beams will be amazing.

If you want lights that you can leave on all the time to supplement the low beam, fit the Piaa 530LPs as they won't bother oncoming traffic because they emit a focused, aimable beam, unlike the conical beam of most LEDs.

Back in the day, the Gold Wing 1500 SE had cornering lights where you usually see running lights on them now. they would come on when you activated a turn signal. Nice set up!

Nice spreadsheet.

The 3A fuse is good enough for charging a cell phone and not much more. I tap off that wire to trigger the relay which turns on power to items I don't want powered when the key is off.

Aftermarket lights and horns generally each need a relay. Previous thread with how:

Alright alright alright...
Disclaimer
I'm a Nut when it comes to buying lights for my bike...

I just ordered the 530LP kit from PIAA... The mounting is for under the headlights... However, I already have the touratech daytime running lights there... So has anyone installed the 530's in front of or besides or beneath that setup?

Also, this is going to be a temporary setup as I'll be placing an order for PIAA light bars... They light up the night on rallies and so I'll switch my 530 to the engine crash bars or the low fork mount option given by PIAA... And install the light bars beneath the daytime running lights...

touratech DRL are for show only... They Look very cool, but No illumination... Pointless 800$+ if you ask me... You've been warned!!!

I'm not sure what shipping to Pakistan might cost, but many of the members here run the Skene controller. It ties into your high beams, an with the proper switch installation, gives you 3 levels of light, plus 100% output when the high beams are triggered. They also offer an Alert feature, which flashes the lights for you with a double tap of the horn button. I use the controller with a pair of 10W LED spots mounted on my handlebars. I usually run these at the 10% level for DRL. In addition, I picked up an early version of the Baja Design OnX light bar kit for the ST. In my version, the harness had a switch which toggled between 100%, 50% and strobe modes (they have since switched over the Skene controller as well). I rarely turn this light on, as I don't do much night riding away from the city. When I do have all the lights at 100%, it's almost better than daylight!

Cool... I'm going to have a look at it... Could you post a couple of pics of your setup?

I'm thinking of redirecting the PIAA to the lower fork mount up front... Pic attached for reference....
The light bars are super bright... I do night riding... Some highway... Cross country at night... Besides I also want to make a lot of noise with the lights... Over in my country, people drive with high beams on the highway, blinding you... No body cares... The only way for you to make them lower their beams is to throw back a brighter beam pattern, that makes sense to them, a civilised driver is a rarity on the highway in Pakistan

I thought I had the pics here on the forum somewhere already, but I couldn't find them. This is the only one I currently have that shows all 3 aux lights on.

That's because they don't sell them in the US. The Yamaha oem fog lights are H7 Halogen bulbs, same as the headlights, and come with the full plug and play harness. You can sometimes find them on ebay or thru a Canadian dealer. US Yamaha dealers have been selling PIAA 530 kits that are nice LED lights, but don't come with a plug and play harness, you have to get the plug parts from Eastern Beaver.

As you can see from this thread, there are a metric ton of choices for lights. www.LEDRider.com sells good quality Chinese imports, (he imports them directly and his customer service is top notch). There are lots of other good sellers too. I have an older set of the square Long Range Optimus LED lights in 10º spot that are sold from various vendors, got them here: http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/dual-sport-bike-lights.html w/o any dimming BS, just the lights and harness. I wired it to my high beams and an inline toggle switch so I could have them off if desired during high beam use. They have had zero problems and just worked for ~60k miles or so, including Alaska/Yukon and an IBR. I run them on KC Highlites mounts http://www.kchilites.com/accessories/light-mounts/universal-tube-clamp-mounting-brackets.html that are sold individually for <$20 each. Very solid. Mounted to my Rumbux crash bars.

Eric- Can the Rigid sr 6" be mounted under the headlights with Runbux bar in place? I was going to notch the OE supports to mount the light bar but just realized I have your Rumbux bar set up....

Lights are about how you want to use them. Do you want to see better, or be seen? Most HID aux lights are useless in traffic because they are simply too bright and have no cut off. I do run a DOT legal HID light as well, but it's no longer sold. (Xenarc 1010) Some of the self contained HID lights are very bright, and pretty heavy too. Consider that when you look at how you will mount them.

Install an Eastern Beaver Aux. Fuse block and you won't have any problems installing lights cleanly. No relay needed for LED lights in most cases. Just power, ground and a switch and most instructions that come with the lights will get you there w/o hassle.
