hello everyone, sorry for another battery thread.
My S10 takes a second to crank. The battery hasn't been changed ever and the bike is a 2015 model. I want to change the battery before I am left stranded far from home.

The Authorized supplier for Yuasa batteries in my location doesn't have stock for either YTZ 12S or YTZ 14S. He wont be getting stock for another 3 months due to shipping issues after Covid 19.
He is offering me another Yuasa battery which is TTZ 12s or TTZ 14s. The difference is that the battery is made by Yuasa Taiwan instead of Yuasa Japan, Also it comes with an acid pack which I have to use to get the battery ready.
When I told him that the battery is mounted sideways and not straight, he was a bit skeptical and said its on you. Its generally not recommended because of the battery acid and might leak and ruin the bike.
Can some one who uses a battery with acid please chime in and give me some peace of mind ? I dont want to use batteries from other brands and lithium batteries are too expensive and hard to find here.
Thanks!

As per Yuasa website, they dont recommend TTZ to be mounted in angles compared to YTZ. The S10 has a battery mounted sideways on the left. Now I am really confused.

Absorbed glass matt (AGM) is the only battery that doesn't care what angle it's mounted. It may not be a Yuasa, but at this point it may not matter, just make sure it's an AGM battery. Amazon shows that they have some. I don't know how much being in Dubai is going to complicate the issue. Good luck.

The OEM battery is an AGM design, not sure about the TTS series. There are a number aftermarket equivalent, direct replacement AGM alternatives to the OEM YTZ batteries out there.

I made a few 100 calls and found a supplier for Lithium batteries. still looking for a reliable AGM battery.
If I am correct, a lithium battery shouldnt be charged in temperatures less than 120F or risk a fire. Considering that we get those temperatures here and I do take short rides at that temperature, is it safe ? If I ride for 30 mins at 45c or 114 ~ 120F, is it going to be super risky?
The lowest temperature that we ride at is 40F. I think it shouldnt matter much for cold starts right and the bike charging the battery at that temperature?

Not positive but I believe the Taiwan batteries are also absorbed glass matt batteries, when you pour in the acid it takes about an hour to charge and absorb the acid, after it’s absorbed you can mount it in any position and it will not leak, I have actually gone through this process a few times myself with great results, just make sure to follow the instructions that come with the battery.

I live in Florida which is hot but not as hot as Dubai. I installed a Shori lithium battery in my S-10 over 5 years ago and it still works like new (I know, I know, they can quit without warning unlike a lead/acid battery). Regardless, if and when this one quits, I'm replacing it with the same. Will not go back to lead/acid on ANY of my bikes. JMHO, YMMV.

Thanks, the website does mention that its an AGM battery but also mentions that its not a suitable replacement for YTZ battery. I think I may have to take a chance with the Yuasa TTZ. I dont feel confident with Lithium.

I will have to get the Shori battery shipped to me by air and that means USD 250 ~ cost and no warranty.

Please don’t do that. The TTZ isn’t suitable since it’s a fluid filled battery. You will regret it. I went with a LI-ion, it’s perfect.

Stefan.

I'm guessing that is supposed to read should. But, I think that temperature restriction is when you have it out of the bike, on a battery charger. I ride frequently in the summer when our air temps are in excess of 105F. I would also assume, that all batteries when installed in the bike, easily exceed 120F. That close to the motor, which is 180+/-. I'm with Stefan about not using the TTZ. Of course Stefan will never have to worry about 120F temps. :D

Whenever it should reach 120F here then probably my house is on fire. Just around a 100F is maximum here, thank god. With our humidity we would be filling our lakes with sweat..

Ive been waiting since July for a Yuasa and like you no sign yet of a shipment arriving down here either...
2 weeks back i fitted a Poweroad AGM battery to tide me over its a little down on CCA (170) but it will get me thru summer fine till the Japanese Yuasas arrive.

I really don't think you will experience any problem with Lithium.
I have been driving with this all season, no problem. Also no problem here in cold weather.
So in your place...Maybe louis send to Dubai :D

Amazon $131.71, and free shipping. Yuasa YTZ14S. In stock. Does Amazon ship to Dubai? 'Cuz if they do, I don't know what you're waiting for.
