I've got some rich whacky neighbors that have 45 outdoor stray cats and I don't know how many indoor. They cats are all over everything. Ate a coil wire off my new f150 $$$. Cat tracks out the ass. I hear cat fights in the middle of the night on my porch. My clipped 8 yr old tom cat has been to the vet 3 times$$$ from war wounds. In the last couple of years. I've hauled of probly 30 kitties. $$$. Animal shelter hear in my little town needs a no vacancy sign out front. What's a man to do?

I'm not saying it's impossible, but, it may not have been the cats. Squirrels got my main wiring harness on my Jeep when it was new; $1,800. New vehicles have soy based wiring insulation. That being said, I wouldn't think a squirrel could have got through all those cats. BTW, your comprehensive insurance covers that kind of damage. If you live inside city limits, call animal control. If you're outside the city....I'd go with Antanas's suggestion. I solved my squirrel problems with an electronic repeller….and a .223 deployment system.

It was definitely cats. A trucker said something to me about soy based wires. I thought he was full of shit. I've had a cat or 2 damn near my whole life. I did raise the hood and 3 of them scattered. I put 6 mouse traps on top of my engine and broke that shit up too. The guy at the Ford shop showed me a expidition with some big wires chewed off. Cat trax all over the motor. I was raised in the sticks on a farm. We had cats to keep the rats down and I don't ever remember a cat eating wires.

I have the same problem where I live. House across the street was a rental and they accumulated 20+ cats. Never spayed or neutered any and they multiply. Animal control in my town won’t do anything about cats.

The family up and left one week and guess what they left. Yep all those cats. I like animals, but they started setting up house in my hay shed, spraying and pissing all over.

Some people just don’t care.

Did you get rid of them?

Some got re-homed on a farm. Some didn’t. But the population was brought under control.

Fennellg You might be kin to my dad. He had beavers stopping up his culverts every night on the farms. They were too slick to trap. Dad dumped some toxic methyl in the cannal and took out everything. Not exactly very green of him. When you got 4 boys to feed you got to do something.

Lock? HA! This one hits close to home for me.
But I did change the title.

We had a political appointee boss who lived on a big boat in the Washington DC marina, which was really more of a floating house. I never was on the boat but saw photos of the legend because she had 9 cats and (I kid you not) had life jackets for EACH with their names on them. It also supposedly reeked on that boat. Definitely met the definition for Crazy Cat Lady.

As for asshole pets and their owners, meet my neighbor and his f*-ing big fat pitbull. Their fence is close to my bedroom window and the dog has a compulsive need to bark whenever it is outside. The owners apply zero training or restraint because in their words "It's what dogs do." Seems that I need to talk to them at the beginning of every summer, because normally the dog goes out when the wife gets up around 7:30 and I'm already long up. When it's cold, anybody walking by the house on the street can hear the damned dog barking away inside because nobody is home all day. I was in their front hall a while back and the dog's torn the inside of the house to shreds.

A couple of months ago the neighbor started to put the dog out at 5:25 in the morning as he was getting ready to go to work and I finally banged on the door on what was the 2nd or 3rd morning, waking the whole family. Oops Gee My Bad for waking you people after YOUR dog woke me up. Who the F puts out a barking dog at 5:25 am and leaves it out long enough to take a shower? And if it's warm, lets the damned thing bark outside till after 10pm? They've been better since then and I just have to hear it after about 7-7:30 when the wife gets up.

They bought a bark collar which was effective for a week or so. The dog is strong and dumb and just doesn't mind. I bought a electronic bark thing to put on the fence and that drive him to the other side of their yard for a maybe a week.

Other neighbors like the family and aren't so close physically. Plus I'm already the neighbor who doesn't want to socialize (for some reason) so it would be all out bad if I were to call animal control. I love dogs and will get another at some point, especially with retiring, but already know how hard it will be to keep one from barking back.

get a dog
Or coyote(s). I'm rural enough that I have a pack of coyotes that roam the area. Apparently Corgi is a coyote delicacy. There have been more missing Corgi signs, than any other breed. The cat population is not a problem, but those damn squirrels....too fast for the coyotes. We also have bobcats, foxes, armadillos, 'coons, possums. big ass snapping turtles, and red tail hawks that frequent the neighborhood. We also have enough mice/rats, that I go through 4 bags of Tomcat rat/mice poison....a week; but that keeps them out of the house.
