Lock? HA! This one hits close to home for me.
But I did change the title.
We had a political appointee boss who lived on a big boat in the Washington DC marina, which was really more of a floating house. I never was on the boat but saw photos of the legend because she had 9 cats and (I kid you not) had life jackets for EACH with their names on them. It also supposedly reeked on that boat. Definitely met the definition for Crazy Cat Lady.
As for asshole pets and their owners, meet my neighbor and his f*-ing big fat pitbull. Their fence is close to my bedroom window and the dog has a compulsive need to bark whenever it is outside. The owners apply zero training or restraint because in their words "It's what dogs do." Seems that I need to talk to them at the beginning of every summer, because normally the dog goes out when the wife gets up around 7:30 and I'm already long up. When it's cold, anybody walking by the house on the street can hear the damned dog barking away inside because nobody is home all day. I was in their front hall a while back and the dog's torn the inside of the house to shreds.
A couple of months ago the neighbor started to put the dog out at 5:25 in the morning as he was getting ready to go to work and I finally banged on the door on what was the 2nd or 3rd morning, waking the whole family. Oops Gee My Bad for waking you people after YOUR dog woke me up. Who the F puts out a barking dog at 5:25 am and leaves it out long enough to take a shower? And if it's warm, lets the damned thing bark outside till after 10pm? They've been better since then and I just have to hear it after about 7-7:30 when the wife gets up.
They bought a bark collar which was effective for a week or so. The dog is strong and dumb and just doesn't mind. I bought a electronic bark thing to put on the fence and that drive him to the other side of their yard for a maybe a week.
Other neighbors like the family and aren't so close physically. Plus I'm already the neighbor who doesn't want to socialize (for some reason) so it would be all out bad if I were to call animal control. I love dogs and will get another at some point, especially with retiring, but already know how hard it will be to keep one from barking back.
