I got the Arrow headers installed and the bike runs very well with no surging at 2k RPMs. Also thanks to ~TABASCO~ for suggesting the ¾ turn out on the throttle bodies. I just had that done along with the valve adjustment. The bike is smoother in the very low RPMs and the chugging is gone which I kinda liked. Next week I’m getting a custom PCV map done.

Can anyone explain these measurements on my valve adjustment work order under “Recommended Repairs?” I was told all the valves needed adjustment however the intake numbers look unchanged.

Break the run-on apart this way to cylinders and separate the lines and it makes more sense:
[Cylinder] #1
EX. .008 HAD .199 NOW .196 .

.007 HAD .199. NOW .195.
#1 IN. .004/.004.

[Cylinder] #2
EX. .008 HAD .196 NOW .190.
.008 HAD .195. NOW.190.
#2 IN. .005/.005

The intake valves were within spec per manual page 2-4, which shows the specs are:
IN .10 - .16 MM .0039 - .0063 IN
EX .22 - .28 MM .0087 - .0110 IN
It looks like the exhaust valves needed new shims and the odd looking 190-199 numbers are the shim thicknesses. The shims come in thicknesses of .05mm/.002", so those numbers make sense, since changing the shim in the first one from 199 to 196 would loosen the clearance by (3sizes x .002"each =) .006" to get back into spec.

You'll get that and more with Arrow headers.

@yz454 – I have a 2014 and from what I’ve seen the bike isn’t as restricted as the earlier models. For me, @160 pounds, the bike is fast enough in the first 3 gears. On the streets I don’t spend much time in first and second. I do spend a lot of time in the other gears. Because of that I don’t think I would benefit enough from the flash. I would like more top-end in all gears so I bought the headers. As for the PCV, I always get those on my bikes, even when stock, to improve the fueling and throttle response. Speaking of throttle response, I’ve also read the flash makes on/off throttle twitchy and I really don’t want that.

@LJM – I’ll definitely add the dyno graph when I get the bike back. I’m dropping it off on Wednesday at http://www.erionracing.com/dynotuning.aspx

@Checkwrecks – thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it!

@twinrider & @Rasher – nice gains!

Depends on the Flash ::008::

The ECU-U on my bike made sports mode very aggressive on part throttle, OK near me on the crap mainly straight roads I have, but on tight twisty mountain hairpins in the Alps it was bit much.

With my custom flash from CJS racing I went to a 1:1 mapping (like a good old fashioned cable) and it is much nicer, also had T-Mode enhanced a bit so now both modes give full power with a very linear response, just with T-Mode being dulled down a little.

I know for the US folks AVC8130 offers a range of throttle mappings so you can have whatever you want - or buy your own FT Harness and create your own.

I think the 2014 restrictions are much less, and a generic flash will probably do less than having a good power commander setup - getting the fueling bang on does give a surprisingly large power gain on these bikes.

I got a bigboost from my custom map (on top of the ECU-U flash gains), and I know another fella in the UK who had already fitted a full exhaust system and having the bike mapped on the dyno picked up about 10BHP (the pipes were already fitted so the 10BHP was in addition to whatever the pipes had already added) although some of these gains will come from ignition as that is also tweaked by CJS.

Picked up my bike today from Erion Racing and here's the results of the custom map. Previously I had the stock PCV map.

Max power = 107
Max torque = 80

Wow ! That's a great gain and IMO well worth doing. That power curve is probably one of more linear ones I've seen no dips anywhere with an impressive HP gain. I re read your 1st post wondering what muffler you were using and was surprised to see you using the stock can I think that's great still quite and you picked up a bunch of power ! I'm guessing with the stock muffler the cat converter is still in place ?
Also a little surprised to see such an improvement from PCV map to the dyno tuned mapping Erion really nailed it. Thanks for posting I've been waiting to see what a few mods and good tuning would do for the 2014 bikes. Looks like I'll be ordering the arrow headers and a PCV
Any suggestions on where to the parts ?

Yeah, as Kwatters posted the cat is in the stock headers so when you replace with the Arrows the cat is gone. The bike does feel stronger and the engine sounds a little different, sounds deeper. I was surprised to see a HP number in the triple digits. Erion did contact Dynojet about the bike and the Dynojet rep suggested there wouldn't be much gain or improvement over their map. Erion mentioned this to me and pretty much gave me an out of not going through with the custom map. I still wanted it done. They and I were pleased with the results. As for where to buy, I bought the headers through Revzilla and the PCV through ebay (it's under $300 there).

Can someone explain how to do this 3/4 throttle body synch? You turn one out 3/4 from full close and then synch the other to that? TIA. :)

Hi, Pretty new to the forum and trying to read as much as possible as quickly as possible. I realise this is an old thread but have a similar question. I intend to replace the headers and end can now but cant get it on a dyno for a few months. Will I cause any damage? Will the bike still be rideable? Should I wait until nearer the dyno date to replace the exhaust? Many thanks

My bike has a full arrow system and PCFC (power commander fuel controller) but this was fitted when I bought it. Not sure if it was remapped but if it has a PCFC I'm not sure it would need the remap. The maps for the PCFC are free to download from Dynojet. Maybe this is an option for you?

Thanks tallpaul. Going to stick with the Dyno and ECU remap route. So the question remains, will it be ok to ride with header and end can replacements now whilst waiting to get remap done? Many thanks

You made the right choice. I rode mine whilst waiting for the remap and it didn’t make much difference. I can’t see it doing any harm in the short term. Have you still got the sensors connected?
