Armor?

Does anyone here wear armor, specifically chest armor, under their riding jacket?

The reason I ask is that I recently dropped my S-10 in some deep gravel and I hit my side against something, I'm not sure what. It winded me and 7 days later my ribs still hurt.

Now I'm thinking perhaps I should consider wearing some kind of a chest piece underneath my mesh jacket (I live in Las Vegas it's a 110F degrees here so I have to ride with mesh).

I am seen a number of versions of protectors on Amazon some of which look too bulky to wear underneath anything. I've also seen some compression armored shirts that seem to have a basic level of armor built into them.

So I'm curious if anyone has any experience with these. I'm a relatively new rider and I do not intend to do anything super technical so I'm not really looking for anything geared towards hard core dirt bike or Enduro riding, just a bit of extra protection that is comfortable enough to wear.

Its wise to wear chest protection as your vunerable there. I use a Forcefield Elite and once on forget its there. If you have to ride in mesh i would gi for something well vented. Some jackets have pockets to take them. If not your looking at strapped ones. Depending on the quality of the armour in the jacket you have if the armour is not D30 it might be worth ditching the armour in the jacket and getting an undershirt with it all built in.

I wear a EVS ballistic jersey for off road with the built in kidney belt. I have both version 1 and the newer version with built in hydration. There are a bunch of other choices that are just as good. Some of them even have vented D30 armor. They are very easy to put on and work really well in a tumble.

I always have it on a dirt bike.
If you are new to the off road world, I'd recommend it for that. Cycle Gear has some inexpensive stuff but almost anything will do.

i have done 500+ miles in a day through the mountains in southeastern BC and Alberta in full motocross gear on my S10, totally comfortable. i have also ridden in St George UT in their 100'F heat on my small dual sport bikes.
i wear this and Klim Mojave ITB pants (and crash shorts and knee protection) but with the more technical riding that i have been doing on my small bikes i am considering this because of the added rib protection. i do wear an Alpinestars BNS neck brace while riding and these are both BNS compatible.

it also sounds like you may have a cracked rib...

I've been looking at things similar to the two you posted.. I'm still undecided. I think my ribs are fine, but I may have torn a muscle since right after falling I lifted the bike. No worries though its getting better every day.. I'll be ready to screw up again soon lol
