Anyone mod their handguards?

I'm looking to either mod the stock handguards, or buy existing handguards, that have louvers/vents that open and close. 85f+ gets pretty swampy in summer gloves...
I'd rather not have to switch between two sets of handguards, or drill holes in the factory guards and carry plugs, if possible.

I would recommend the Bark Busters VPS hand guards. They have the best of both worlds. One position for venting and another for wind protection. These are the only hand guards that have not required any modifications to fit. 100% bolt on perfect fit. I use them in over 100 degree rides and my leather Racer Grip Glove.

If you’re not bushwhacking aren’t handguards mostly to protect the levers?
Wouldn’t the aluminum brace alone be sufficient?
My stockers hit the aftermarket windscreen, so I removed them to facilitate full lock turns.
Looking for lower profile options and I like the venting idea or a smaller footprint for air flow.

I bent my brackets so they are higher and cover more of the top of my hands.
I also take them off in the spring and just this past weekend I put them back on.

All it takes is one time for a brach to snap your hand. You will then appreciate the plastic covers. They also help with wind protection in freezing temps.

I’ll assume you’re up north. Not too many branches on the dirt I ride down south.
You did answer my question though, thx.
I’ll search for a slim option or mod the stockers.

I live in Southern CA about 15 miles from you. Once I'm back on my feet I can take you to some really cool single track in the mountains.

Deal. Hoping for a speedy recovery then.

Took a ride to Big Sur and Prewitt Ridge in August with a fellow S10 brother. She handled better than expected in the dirt on street focused Roadsmart III. Just spooned on a new Dunlop TM Mission front and will swap a Shinko 705 rear i have lying around for now.
Been up Butler Peak on my Vstrom, but mostly fire roads with some sand.

Apparently y'all don't have June Bugs or big ass grasshoppers or birds or bees or flying rocks from crappy chip seal roads or . . . . My boys and I were out riding, and I noticed the one on the R6 suddenly pull over. Come to find out, a bee had stung him. . . . through his gloves. He's not deathly allergic to be stings, but by the time we got home, his hand was very swollen. Ironically, he was the only one of us that had been wearing gloves. I frequently feel/hear stuff hit my handguards. And, since I apparently have low standards, the OEs work fine for me.
