Anyone know if the 2020 will be updated?

I'm spoiled by the 300+ mile range of my old ST1300, so I would welcome more fuel capacity. I once went over 350 miles on my ST13 and it still had about 2-4 tenths of a gallon left. Having filled completely empty tanks (there are two) before, I know it can take the full rated 7.7 gallons. Not sure if it is all useable but based on that one experience I think it's pretty close.

I once put 6.1 gallons into my Super Tenere and it was still running when I arrived at the fuel station.
I wouldn't mind another gallon or two of gas. I have had both a ST1300 and a 1200RT, and really liked not stopping at a gas station until the mid 200 mile area. That left a good 50-70 miles left, which I liked, as I find myself in spots where gas stations are 30+ miles away, and not a lot of gas.

Updated 2020 Africa Twin dropped. Not for me, but the Adventure Sports looks to be a nice package: https://www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/2020-honda-africa-twin-and-africa-twin-adventure-sports-es-first-look.html

For $17200 you get
- Modern TFT display with Carplay, also a secondary LCD display
- Semi active suspension
- Six axis IMU
- Cruise control (previous version didn't have it)
- 530lbs wet
- 6.5g fuel tank
Looks pretty nice, but you pay a 10 kg (23 pound) weight penalty for the DCT. I would not have expected that much additional weight for the DCT.

Okay, then how about making the reserve 1 gallon instead of 1.5ish gallons? My tank goes onto reserve at 4.6 gallons used. I know this because twice this last weekend I hit reserve and stopped to fill it within a few miles. I have also seen threads on here discussing this. 25% of the tank is a very generous "reserve", somewhere in the range of 50-70 miles, depending on your riding style. A one gallon reserve is still about 17% of the tank. 1 gallon should give you 35-45 miles, again depending on your riding style.
You have to consider that the bike is build in a country using the metric system.
It has a 23 liter capacity and the reserve is 5 liters (which is 21.7 % by the way).
Here in Europe 5 liter reserve is very nice, as it in most places allows you to reach the next gas station after hitting reserve when traveling on the highway.

In western states, I start looking for gas stations when I still have half gas left - you know, just in case.
New ATAS looks like a sweet deal, I'm not too mush used to shaft yet. As for basic AT, I'd rather try T7.

It’s no wonder that the youth are not buying motorcycles. How can they afford them? Instead they are glued to their phones and video games.

The glory days of motorcycles are over I’m afraid.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. We're talking about some of the most expensive bikes on the market.

The entry level market is phenomenal right now, there are some awesome bikes in every category. A hell of a lot better than when I started riding in '06.

Modern youth are not even getting drivers license, forget motorcycles. In all fairness someone born in the next 5 years will never drive a car in all probability next 10-20 years its all going to be automated and us idiots on 2.

Somewhere there was dyno charts of that wonderful 150hp chain drive KTM, and somewhere of the Super Tenere "miserable 100hp" or whatever. The Yamaha made like double the HP of the KTM in the RPM I ride most the time. I don't see fun of running 12,000rpm anymore. Never did really. Be careful what you wish for. More power may not be advisable. I don't need it on this motorcycle. Don't want anything even remotely related to an automatic transmission, or anything to do with a stupid phone. No keyless crap either, the new goldwing went that way. More guys stranded in one year than in the last 40yrs already. Stay with reliable technology. Yamaha has a good motorcycle here. Hope it stays that way.

Similar situation back in the '80s....everybody was ga-ga over the 160mph Ninja 1000. Yet the FJ destroyed the Ninja in the real world 45-70mph roll-ons; in 3rd thru 5th gear. I do think pricing has reduced the number of new riders. "Back in the day", I had more than a few friends that rode bikes. My first bike was not new, and most of my friends were riding used bikes. If a person wants to ride, they'll find a bike they can afford; because cheap bikes are out there. Nowadays, my sons, combined, have two friends that ride; the interest just isn't what it once was.

Bangkok, cheap beer, good party
I asked the Yam HQ in my country before i make reservation for this Tenere last week,
they told me that next year or two no new Super tenere, just 700 tenere, and niken and perhaps some other model that is not beyond 1000cc.

I guess I remember the glory days of motorcycles as the 70’s-mid late 80’s. Japan flooded the market with cheap, reliable bikes. New bikes were cheap and used were even cheaper. From mini bikes- which got the youth riding, to inexpensive dual sports ie Suzuki ts185, every kid I knew had a motorcycle of some sort growing up. Bikes were simple, abs? Traction control? Nah we didn’t have those. Two stroke simple engines. Those were the days. I guess I’m just getting old.

Most of us are. That's part of the problem. "what do you need your monthly payment to be?" and $1300 cell phones with monthly payments keep many younger people poor. We used to call it 'house poor' when your mortgage payment took too much of your monthly income to allow you to go have fun more often or have a toy. Many of the under 40 crowd have stupid high car payments even when they have a good job. And why buy a house now? After the '08 crash, it no longer looks like a good idea for many people. So they rent. And some rent really nice places that suck even more of their income up.

Kids around here don't even go outside to play. I see a handful playing hoops now and then, but in this huge subdivision they are all inside on their electronic devices. Phones more than real computers. The laptop is for school, not for fun. To the under 30 crowd, their phone is their entire world. Sad.

It seems, from reading the different threads through the years on whatever motorcycle or motorcycles I've had through the years, that there was always that little bit more, or extra, or less (weight), or fancy, or updated, etc, that posters wanted from the motorcycle they were riding at the moment. During my VTX1300, DL1000 and now S10 forums, there's always that extra want from the motorcycle owner that the manufacturer should have added. But, what I would ask, why then complain about the bike? I'm riding the motorcycle with some compromises, now. And, I rode motorcycles in the past that had some compromises. I do not mean compromise in a negative way. I can list what they were, but we can leave that discussion for the Wintertime Blues in a few months. Go find that bike that had the extra HP, or the TC switch on the fly, or the Brembo brakes, no buffeting, or the chain/shaft, or the better display, lighter weight, or the larger fuel tank, etc. I have some answers; that unicorn of a motorcycle would look like a Frankenbike that isn't made yet but close, (GSA?) Pick a different bike than the S10. Let's be honest, probably only 70% (low number) of us older fat bastards don't have the ability to ride the S10 to it's full capacity anyway. I am in that 70%. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that riders with Yamahas, Honda, Suzukis, Ducatis and Beemers and HDs and whatever manufacturer, wish that the current motorcycle they were riding at this moment had that little extra too.

A 6 gal fuel tank is jus fine thankya

If anything...increase the engines fuel efficiancy slightly

That would be the better solution and could be done without impacting power. Simple math: gallons x mpg = fuel range

My new Yamaha "mini" adventure bike for overseas has only a 13 liter tank. Thanks to fuel efficiency I have a longer range than the Tenere, up to 550 kms.
