Anyone have experience with the Sena SRL?

Okay, so I got a really good deal on a Shoei Neotec 2 and I'm trying to decide whether to install the Sena SRL (which was specifically made for the Neotec 2 and looks factory-integrated), or instead go with a different unit (like the Cardo Packtalk).

The self-healing mesh network of the Cardo is really nice, but I don't expect to use it for more than talking with my wife, honestly, so it's not a necessity. Even then, I'm going to spend far more time using it to listen to music than as a communicator.

It seems the reviews of the SRL are all over the place and contradictory. Some people say that the sound is great while others talk about how terrible it is.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the Sena SRL?

I've had the SRL in my new Neotec2 for a month, I like it but never had any form of comms before so nothing to compare it to. I have it and my android phone paired to my Zumo 395 and it works well for hands-free calls. I use it mostly to listen to music stored on Zumo with the MP3 player. For some reason the voice control for MP3 doesn't work very often, have to touch the screen to start or pause music and I think the sound quality is quite good.
FM works fine with voice commands.

I have the SRL, coming from the sena 20. to me it is the same as the 20(which worked well for me), but what i found out on a long trip last month is you cannot charge it while using it, and the damn thing only last 10hrs listening to music and sporadic talking. i contacted sena about the charging situation and they have no plans on changing it.

My primary concerns were really around the quality of audio compared to other comm systems. As long as it's not significantly worse and doesn't have any glaring weaknesses (I was aware of the 10-hr usage time, but it's not a deal-breaker for me), I think I'm going to go with the SRL. It's really hard to beat how it disappears into a Neotec 2. You can definitely tell it was made for it.

For me the sound quality is slightly better than my sena 20 if that helps? i must be lucky because the speaker placement is in the provided holes in the neotec 2 with the srl, but on my old helmet with the sena 20 i had to move the speakers pretty far forward out of provided speaker pockets. part of the reason i went with neotec 2 and srl was wind noise reduction. besides the charging problem on the SRL i have had no issues with either of my senas sound quality or performance. but to be fair i mostly just bluetooth my music, talk to 1 or 2 other sena riders with me and take a phone call once in awhile.

I'm thinking of buying a Neotec 2 and have seen loads of reviews, one thing they all commented on was how difficult it is to fit a different comms unit to the helmet due to the blanking plate of the SRL. I'm not so concerned as I'll use Autocom in it for when I'm training.

Ok, just got back from another multi day ride. The guy I went riding with had the SRL also, terrible connectivity we couldn't get more than 30 YARDS apart without loosing each other, and with the intercom going most of the time I only got 8.5 hours of use on a full charge. Earlier post the guy I went riding with had a sena 20 and we had decent range maybe 200 yards(you will get nowhere close to the 1 mile range they claim). If you get the SRL bring a set of back up ear buds so you can at least listen to music will you recharge it . I'm disappointed in this purchase!

The Cardo Packtalk can be charged while using. I was on a 12 hour solo ride this weekend playing music the entire time. I got the low battery warning at around 10 hours and used and charged the Packtalk for about an hour while riding.

The Packtalk range is at least line of sight. On flat straight road if I can see you we can talk. Int the mountains the range is good enough to be very useful. If a buddy gets out of range I need to stop and wait.

I also have a Sena 20S and the range is about the same as the Packtalk.

Firmware updates really help some with Cardo and Sena
