Hello MFP and Sierra1. I have heard of using Vaseline or hand sanitizer. I do know it helps keep water out. I have not tried it i was kind of afraid it would get too thick in the cold and not let the key turn. I have tried the deicer. It works on the locks the key is not frozen in. ha ha. have not had as good of luck with it when the key is frozen in the ignition. I usually cup my hands around the ignition and give it mouth to key so to speak till I can turn the bike off. I have been told I am not right but I guess you have love it or I would not do it. Great thing is summer is on the way! 7 Tuesday morning 11 Wednesday morning and 17 this morning! summer is on the way! Whew Hoooo!

Moved to N Georgia 3 years ago from Chicago.....we may get some cold weather but never more than a week from sunny days and good riding weather.....why it took me 55 years to figure that out is the question!

o_O Yeah, I missed THAT part. THAT is natures way of telling you that it's WAY to cold to ride. The only moisture that I've had to worry about was on the ground. You're much more dedicated than I am.

I admittedly am totally spoilt living in SoCal and riding all year 'round. This year has been a little different, colder temps that usual (although most in the country would laugh at what we call cold here) and a shit ton of rain. We need the rain, so I'm mostly thinking bring it on, but on the other hand it sure limits my riding especially up in the canyons either due to mud slides, road damage or snow. I don't mind riding in the rain out in the countryside but riding with commuters in the rain is definitely not my favorite thing to do.

I spent most of my adult life in Pennsylvania, and rather than become accustomed to winter, I learned to loathe it more and more every year. I retired and moved south, and now I find that even North Carolina is getting to be too cold for me (and we haven't even had any snow this year where I'm at). Even Tucson, one of my favorite areas, had measurable snowfall in February, and it was down in the teens. Might be time to start re-learning Spanish and head for Costa Rica....

Out my front door.
I thought it was bad here. Hopefully we will hit 50 in the 10 day forecast.

I like snow. We have had snow on the ground since before Thanksgiving. I’m ready for a change in the weather. One of my least favorite times of the year snow/mud season.

North Carolina too cold? That's where I was planning to retire. Bryson City area. Family issues prevented the move...maybe in a year or so we can still make it happen.

Oh, I don't want to paint it as a winter hellscape, Magic. It's not cold like "northern cold", and my first few years down here it felt like Hawaii compared to PA (I was walking on the beach one December and it was 80 degrees, and the water was actually still warm). I've just been here now for a decade, and I've become acclimatized to the point where if it's 40 degrees and rainy/cloudy, I start feeling it. It's still a nice state in many ways.

Now, I live in the Sandhills, which is more in the southeast part of the state. You're going to be out in the Smokies, and they do get enough snow there, and it's cold enough for snow making, that there are multiple ski resorts around Bryson City (though it's not going to be anything like Wisconsin). Their average winter lows are in the twenties; ten years ago that wouldn't have been as uncomfortable to me as it is now.

It hit 38* today and with rain yesterday washing away the salt, I got in a 75 mile warm up on the Tenere. I think that was the first ride on it in 2 months. Spring is close!

Here is the picture of the path to my house, picked up a couple inches last night and forecasted for more over the next few days. I went snow shoeing yesterday but it's too deep in the woods to enjoy it, once we get a little more crust I'll be snow shoeing while hunting a few rabbits, if the wolves and coyotes haven't taken them all.

Yeah, this winter has been brutal here in Wisconsin. We have some new neighbors. They moved here from Texas last fall to be near their children and grandchildren. I have not seen them outside since early November.

Ha! Don't blame them. It's all what you're used to. Met a guy that had moved down here from Minnesnowta. He was inquiring if the heat we had that day was common. He was not happy to find out that the 85 degrees that day in April, was not only common, but 20 degrees less then July/August. In the middle of summer, our lows commonly stay above 80 all night long.

I'm ready for spring as well. Although I do love the snow in MN, I missed it the past few years. Hopefully this warmer weather will melt a bunch so we can get out and ride soon :)
