Has anyone experience of these type of jump starters not necessarily this particular make . Totally different reviews and depending on who you believe they are the best item since the sliced pan or are the most dangerous item since gunpowder. I would use it mostly in the car as the car is rarely used and the XTis on a battery tender

I've had good experiences with antigravity batteries having to jump start my S10 and other bikes. No issues after a year of use specifically with this brand and the XP3 model.

Where are you hearing of the bad reports?

They work fine but you do need to use some cautions.

NEVER EVER let the clips contact each other. I was at a trade show when an idiot did it down the aisle and it sounded like gunshots going off as each of the internal lithium pouches exploded. The photo below is smoke from that little package. By the time I got there the flames after were only a few inches high, but they were certainly enough to light anything which was flammable and close.

Don't just throw them in the bottom of a pannier or top box. Vibration and dents can cause a thermal runaway too.

Another thumbs up for the Antigravity. My brother in western New York has several cars so has given his XP-1 a workout for the past couple of winters without any issues. Mine has worked great on bikes, cars and my old pickup truck. No issues.

I've got this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Geek-RG1000-Safety-Portable/dp/B01JJZQPB4

The Rugged Geek model has safety circuitry in it to prevent failures in the case of accidentally touching the leads together or connecting it backwards to the battery. Since I have this in my wife's car, I thought those features to be important.

In reading reviews about a year ago when I bought my jump starter pack, there seemed to be a lot of complaints about the Antigravity ones failing in storage, the user finding the device non-functional with the case expanded and split. I don't know if it was a bad run and they've got a handle on it now or what.

So far I've used mine twice, once to start the neighbor's Chevy Tahoe and another time to start a co-worker's motorcycle. Seemed to do the job just fine in both cases.

The power is actually a 3 cell battery and each cell is a foil pouch. When the cells go into thermal runaway the pouches swell like balloons, typically rupturing and releasing the flammable electrolyte. The intensity of the runaway and flammability of the surrounding materials affect whether there can be flames.

I got one several years ago when all the "hard start" talk made me paranoid.
I keep it under the seat.
I haven't had to use it to start my S10 (no hint of hard starting ever), but I have used it at least a dozen times to start other vehicles.

I bought one in '16 for my trip to Newfoundland, I didn't need it then but have used it to start my '98 GMC Sierra several different times since. It works great and I transport it in it's case most times although it's too bulky to carry it like that on a m/c normally.

Bet it's cold in the UP right now. Two year old thread. ;)

Content - I have two of the XP-3 AntiGravity micro start units. One on my bike, one on the wife's bike. I used it a bunch when my F150's battery took a dump until I replaced the battery. Every once and a while I find mine dead in the pannier, but the wife's seem to hold a charge better. I just check and charge before any trips.

Another satisfied customer here, gives me a huge piece of mind waking up in the mountains and knowing I have an battery option. BTW ,never tried this but can the ST be bumpstarted with a dead battery?

It is cold but like most people that live in this region you learn how to deal with the cold and after adjusting to the abrupt temp drop we go about normal winter activities. I do cross country ski/ snowshoe several times a year and still go sledding (albeit not very often at age 59). I don't normally carry it locally but do on trips out of state/ region. I have never found my AG jump starter significantly discharged even if unused for several months. I've had to use it recently in our -20 weather on a 4 year old battery in my '10 Terrain and it did not like the cold temps so I had to wrap it in a towel. All in all it's been well worth the money.

I carry one of these in each car.

Harbor Freight

Usually on sale every other week for about $59. I do intended to stick one in the side case on the next long ride.

I did learn today if you don't warm it up, it's not going to work. Been sitting in a very cold vehicle overnight. Tried to jump my daughter's car and it went from 100% to 0 in about 5 seconds. Plugged it into my cig lighter. It almost immeditatley went to 50%, then 75%, then 100% in about 5 minutes. Tried again and worked great. It was down to 50% again after it started her car, but it did work.

I suspect if I had turned on the built in flashlight feature for a few minutes first it never would have been a problem. I'm counting on someone to tell me I'm wrong...if I am. (Wreckchecker, call your office)

Seems like the compact way to go would be to put a battery tender plug on it and do away with the clamps.

I've thought about doing that myself. My altriders are in the way . The clips are a bitch to hold on to the terminals and reach for the starter button.

I ordered this fused cable on Ebay to replace the plug on my Slime compressor. Should be just the thing for one of these jump starters. It was less than 4 bucks.1549116903208.png
