Another FJR Jettisoned

Like several others on the forum, I finally let go my 2014 FJR1300ES this past weekend. :(

I kept the FJR when I bought my 2017 Super-T not knowing which one I would like better for street only riding. I rode them back to back many times. I was amazed how small and heavy the FJR felt. The Super-T is just more nimble, roomy, and comfy – plus it can go more places. I like the option to be able to stand on the pegs every once in a while too. On the dirt roads I’ve tried with it, the Super-T is very stable.

I will miss the power windshield and the electric motor like power of the FJR. It is very nice looking machine – especially in red. The Super-T is a bit more agricultural. A fellow Super-T owner said to me at the New York MC show in December while we were looking at the 2018 model, “no one is ever going to get lucky riding a Super Tenere” – but that’s ok. I enjoy riding it more – and that’s what it's all about.

I don't know. I think my ST is pretty good looking. Just last night at the local super market a very attractive young woman (Late teens, early twenties?) walked by my ride as I was getting my helmet on. She was wearing a cashmere sweater and was hugging herself against the cold. She said quite clearly while looking at my bike as she hurried by. "Holy shit! That's hot!" I managed to reply "thank you". Made my week.

I forgot to say that I also owned a third gen FJR. One of my least favorite bikes I have ever owned of around twenty or so. Engine was nice enough. Just way to cumbersome in the corners.

Great summary comparison of the two. I couldn't believe how "cramped" the FJR felt after some time on the Tenere, but I do still miss it's power and comfort at speed.

I love(ed) the FJR. I NEVER considered it small or cramped....until after spending time on the Tenere. And, yes, the maroon pearl is gorgeous; almost as much as the cobalt blue of my Tenere. (yes, I do miss the power of the FJR) ::001::

Women seem to draw to the blue Tenere's. All the bikes i have owned this one gets more women drawn to it and admire it.
Sort of weird..
My 98 Triumph Tiger 900 as ugly as a British tractor it was, women thought it looked cool. I did as well but had valve issues.
I dare not ask them if they want a ride!! ??? ::26::

I've been having some issues lately in regards to whether or not to jettison my 15 FJR and to replace it with a new ST....I have a HD Road King that I will be selling next month and then actually have to make a decision. I may try the "buy one and try it" then let the FJR go. I am afraid I might miss the power but the more upright seating position as well as the more leg room on the ST is really tugging at me. Has anyone else lost the FJR to the ST??
Just curious, thanks in advance.

Dave I have a HD Road Glide that is all decked out. Ever since I bought my Tenere last summer it doesn't seem to get much use. I've just about done farkling out my bike for long distance trips so the HD may see even less use in 2018.

Fortunately, I lost my FJR to my youngest son when I got my Tenere. He loves it. Of course he's younger and leaner, so it has plenty of room for him. I have no regrets at all with the Tenere over the FJR. (I keep my ol' FJ because of sentimental reasons; we all ride it now & again) ::001::

I'm with panman, I would hate to have to decide between one or the other. I guess I don't have the problems of finding the FJR cumbersome in the corners or seating position cramped.

I traded my 2011 FJR with 72k miles for a new left over 2017 ST. The FJR was a super bike and I enjoyed owning it. In comparison, I feel the FJR has a more powerful and smoother engine along with stronger brakes. And even in an engine comparison, I find the ST engine to be a neat setup and plenty powerful but it is truly a different approach in design. The ST is far more comfortable and, for me, enjoyable to ride. For example, the ST is easier to do Uturns, ride over a curb, and yet while cruising at high speeds is darn smooth. Throw in better dirt road capability, for me the ST is a road bike, and I'm really glad I made the switch.

Several form members have voiced concern about the continued existence of the Tenere. I've been thinking that with so many of us switching from the FJR, maybe we should concerned with the FJR's continued existence. Honda dropped the ST1300, and it was a great bike. (not as good as the FJR though) More SUVs are sold than sports cars; and the Tenere is definitely an SUV. ::001::

Everything you just said EXACTLY. The FJR is a great bike, but small, heavy, and cramped space. Every time I took the FJR out I felt I had to "prepare". With the S10 I just jump on and go and it is more fun and less work to ride. I can't deny missing that 1300cc 4-cyl on onramps though.....

Ha, Yamaha, trying to steal sales from other adv bike makers with the Tenere, instead has converted FJR owners ..
