I needed more comfort from my seat and wanted to fix the slope as well. I have previously tried professionals and other seats but they never seem to get it right. Solution? Do it myself.

Buy a piece of marine vinyl, 1 inch thick medium density closed cell foam and a staple gun. Pull the cover off, add a layer of foam, and some extra under the front. Stretch the vinyl over and staple back on. I have also added a $5 Ebay net cover that allows some air flow.

I've done a few long days now and best seat I have had. Total cost about $40AUD.

Seat is now slightly wider and higher. Also very easy to change back to stock. Cheers

I like the stock seat set in the lower position, but I need a seat that is about 1 inch or 25 mm lower.
I think that I might buy a used stock seat and modify it.
I hear that Yamaha's lower seat is not comfortable and doesn't lower the seat height very much.

Did you manage to order a $5 net cover that actually fit or did you have to modify it to fit ?
I was just looking at those covers on eBay but it’s pretty hard to tell what they might actually fit.

That's a great idea. I have never been happy with the stock seat but too tight to go aftermarket. What about using memory foam? Did you remove the stock cover or just add the extra layer?

I took the cover off and kept it so I can return to stick if needed when I sell. Memory foam compresses and stays that way like in ski boots. The stick foam is pretty high density so a layer of 1 inch medium density works well. Softens the ride to feel more like an armchair. It is good quality foam though otherwise it compresses like a cheap lounge.

I bought a mesh cover like that last year from a member on here last summer. I think I gave $40 for it. It really cooled my crack in the heat. After a few thousand miles. I took it off. It had left some marks on the sides of my seat. I'm going back to a bead rider.

By how much did this lower the seat height?
Did you remove all of the original foam?
Does the original foam come off in one piece??
Thanks

I was modifying my seats all the times making them lower, softer and I did this to 3 of my last bikes during 12 years , on this period of time I traveled over 100 000 km and I figure that my ass is comfortable now even on the brick. I purchase now Yamaha XT 1200 ES and it has most comfy seat in the world and best suspension I ever dreamed. No need to waist time and money on upgrades and modifications that meets your expectations just for short period of time . And i can travel more on the bike

Raises the seat height as I added 1 inch of foam to the original foam. The original foam would come off in one piece though.

Ok thanks, good to know that the original foam can be removed in one piece and later put back on to the seats original condition.
