So with the bottom rack being the failure point do you guys think a longer button head bolt could be used with a washer in place of the countersunk?

I would be sliding in a toolbag that is soft so it would be fine with the button head.

For a topcase on the nomadic rack, i was going to bolt on a pelican. My side cases plus a drybag on the passenger pillion has worked so well for me that i have been lazy about mounting up this pelican.

I'll never use it. Cover my trip to Fedex and it's yours. If my 2nd Altrider rack craps out. I'm done with them.

Different bike but a vote for the givi modular base. My versys650 has had the givi on there for 5 years. I run the top case (V47) damn near 90% of my rides. It is empty and only carries my helmet and jacket when I am parked. I planned to do the same with the T12.

Let's see how this Altrider holds up with the hardware changes. If It doesn't I plan on moving to a givi mount and will loone the tool pocket the Altrider gives....

Omg thank you.

I bought it forever ago and it only has an “N///“ on it, so i was not recalling the name correctly.
My Altrider lower rack also cracked. I was riding down the 5 and noticed my rear box bouncing up and down. Thankfully it happened close to home. I sent Altrider an email about me possibly buying a replacement but never heard back....which is odd because they had been so helpful to me in the past.

I just ordered a GIVI replacement rack from Twisted Throttle because I wanted to keep using my Trekker Monokey topbox, but I might cancel it now after stumbling onto this thread and seeing that the Nomadic is GIVI Monokey compatible as well as a bit cheaper. How do you guys like it? Anyone else use the GIVI or Nomadic racks?

After 5 days, multiple emails and several pokes on social media, they finally got back to me. They gave me a warranty form to fill out and it's currently in their hands right now. We'll see what happens.

Right there is what gets their attention, social media. Everyone lives and dies by it these days so if "private" conversations on the phone or through email don't net a response that's reasonable, call them out in public so now tens of thousands of eyes are watching.

This may sound strange to some but I fashioned a top case mount out of the thickest poly cutting board I could find and used the original mount for a template on my KLR650. I countersunk all the thru-plate holes just like the original.

The only drawback was the case was mounted semi - permanently, so know quick release, but it never broke and that case was fairly well loaded up and went on and off road for over two years.

I've used these countersink fillers before on aircraft... they will add extra support / strength to the countersunk hole if you are going to use a standard Hex head bolt or Mush headed bolt & washer. We would use an epoxy to secure them into the countersink, once cured we would then grind/mill the protruding metal off so they were flush to the surface of the material. (I know these are stainless but you can get aluminium ones).

Wow I just installed the rack last night and ordered the M8 hardware this morning. It didn't dawn on me to fill the cavity.

Thank you very much!

I just ordered in aluminum. Will bond them like you suggested and fill in the void. Then buff any excess.

Ordered these:

The rack thickness seems to be close to my Happy Trails rack on my DRZ. The Happy Trails hardware is regular button head metric hex.

That is the hardware I ordered to replace the current.

So I will run the rack with the top box this weekend. I hope to do a two up ride this Saturday with my wife.

Once all of the hardware is in I will swap out the current for new m8 hardware.

I hope this all works out well. :D

Glad I read this as I was close to placing order for AltRider rear rack.
Anyone have any experience with the SW Motech Adventure rack?
