Any pictures of broken stock rack with stock Yamaha box ? Been using mine for over 80,000 miles and haven’t noticed anything breaking yet. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself.
Well I suppose you think yamaha spent a fortune designing the passenger rack so it should be all you need? A bit like when they put a plastic engine guard on it?I don’t recall hearing about any subframe breakages, just the aftermarket racks made by altrider. I’ve been using a Givi 42L top case with a Givi mount plate for 80+K miles, including some rough off-road stuff. With no issues. I think you’re jumping to an incorrect conclusion.
Regarding the OEM plastic rack? Why would anyone think you could carry much more than a sandwich or light jacket there?

This wasn't a Yamaha box it was a Givi box but also only 8750 miles (14000 km). Bike has never been dropped. I think the main issue is the rack just floats at the rear it's not bolted down. Not one of their better ideas....Any pictures of broken stock rack with stock Yamaha box ? Been using mine for over 80,000 miles and haven’t noticed anything breaking yet. Well since they sell a topbox i guess you do.... Besides, I have put a topbox on 95 percent of the bikes Ive owned without worry or issues, until this one. You would think for a $285 CDN piece of plastic it would hold up better.didn,t think you were suppose to bolt a top box to that yamaha PLASTIC plate its plastic not for top boxes
the top box mounts to the solid hard piece under this platewell since they sell a topbox i guess you do....
Ok I stand corrected. But at this point I still wouldn't use it. Better plastic but still plastic.you mount the top box to this rack that is fitted under that plastic plate its solid

This part also remains in use for the Givi installation, it’s very strong and unlikely to break. The “decorative plate” that comes on top of this is just too light duty for more than a sandwich, and I’d avoid a foot-long one at that!Ok I stand corrected. But at this point I still wouldn't use it. Better plastic but still plastic.
