Hi Jason,

I installed the Universal joint protector I ordered from you and it was super easy. Very pleased with the product. Thanks!

Awesome - glad to hear it, and thanks for the "gravity-defying" pic! :)

Thanks! I'd obviously wouldn't want the box to leak, so I'd have to get a Gen III.

I'll do some more research on that Plastidip. Seems interesting.
TheHelios nailed it on both counts. Thank you sir for the assist!

I was a bit surprised to see we still had some earlier boxes (two left), so will include the door upgrade at no charge. The new door is a two-piece design with a separate bolt-on retention bracket that allows for a full perimeter seal. The earlier design used the door as a leverage point for tension when closing the door, which forced a break in the gasket. There was about a 1-2" gap that we found was the culprit for water intrusion, especially when the door is flipped upside down for better access behind the S10 turn signals. The raidbox getting blasted to hell by the pressure washer in the video above is the new Gen III door design. :)

Plastidip seems to a nice fix-all for stuff that you want to color change but can't be easily disassembled (or wouldn't survive) powdercoating. It's not permanent and my understanding is that UV rays will degrade the finish after 12-24 months, but it's easy enough to peel off (literally!) and recoat.

Any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks....

Just got a black toolbox for my 14ES with an OEM luggage kit. Getting the security bolt off/on was a bit harrowing (the Home Depot Bit doesn't grab really well for a bolt that is torqued to 23lb/ft). putting it on was not terribly difficult following the directions. I tried to align the box as low as I could and bolted it on as the first item on the luggage bolt as shown in the pictures. Tightening up the security bolt was a pia since there isn't much surface area and it asks for 23lb/ft, but it was done with a generaous amount of pressure pushing into the frame, the next time I take off this bolt I'm just going to replace it.

My concerns are

  • I put blue loctite on the mounting bolts to seal water out, but there were some other screws on the rear of the box that I didn't seal (since they were not used) so I'm hoping they don't turn out to be a leaking source.
  • How close the top of box is to the sloped part of of the OEM case, I got about 5mm or so of space, I'm hoping that the case doesn't jiggle more than that. Also, since the box is effectively flush against the case as well, I am hoping that the lateral movement of the case doesn't bend the bracket or loosen things too much.
Not sure if those concerns are relevant, since I have yet to ride around with the box on but those are just my initial observations.

Other than that I can fit a few small things in there that I don't use that often so i have more room in my tiny OEM trunk.

My tool box clears the OEM cases by an inch or so. Did you bolt the hangers for the tool box behind or in front of the OEM pannier brackets?

No, I'm afraid not, the instructions showed pics of the case being bolted directly behind the head of the bolt. I am not confident that the torx bolt can do another round of 23lb/ft but it appears that this is the only solution for piece of mind.

Thanks for the help, email sent.

I set up the box per WJB and there is much more room between the box and the case.

I'm not sure how y'all are getting 8" of clearance, I got 7.25 - 7.5" to the top of my bleed nipple on the rear caliper, when on the centerstand, and from what I am reading this is not enough clearance to prevent from the box hitting the caliper (the nipple at least).

Like I said, I dunno how you guys are getting 8" of clearance, to the caliper body: sure; but to the tallest part (the top of the bleeder) it is a bit shorter. I attached some pics of my measurements... (I do have a speed bleeder on the back, which i think is smidge taller)

I've never measured mine but I've bottomed the rear suspension a couple of times and I don't see any evidence of contact.

Hi Spork - the Super Tenere has 7.5" of suspension travel in the rear - is that what you're comparing against? As WJBertrand mentioned, we haven't had any instances of contact, even with the suspension fully compressed and treating SuperTen like a big dirtbike. For typical greenlaning, even two-up, you'll have plenty of clearance.

Thanks!

I got curious so went and measured the vertical distance from the tip of the rear caliper bleeder nipple to the bottom of the box directly above it with the bike on the centerstand and rear suspension completely extended. I got 7.75" or about 1/4" clearance considering the 7.5" wheel travel. This explains the lack of any contact.

Rotary, when is are the SW Motech / Black back in stock?
Hi Rockhopper - there hasn't been a ton of demand for them (compared to the OEM setup), so we've been bringing them in by special order. Shoot me an email and I can check stock at the manufacturer as well as ETA for our next shipment and advise.

Thanks!

Has anyone ever verified if these will (or will not) work with Jesse luggage?
Hi AZ Dean - we personally haven't verified fitment with Jesse racks, but my guess is that it may not fit. If you want to try to mock up a cardboard box to see if it will physically fit behind the rack, I'd be happy to give you the box dimensions when I get to the shop later today. We don't have a bolt-on bracket kit - in a perfect world, one of the existing bracket kits may work, but most likely it will require modification and/or fabricating a completely new set of brackets.

Thanks!

Thanks, Jason! I'm looking forward to getting the dimensions. It looks like there's a decent amount of room there, so I am hopeful.

Hi AZ Dean - sorry for the delay. The OEM box measures 10.75" L x 5.625" H (at the rear) x 3.375" W. Let me know how you make out?

Thanks!
