I spoke with Jaxon a little about this, and figured I'd start a topic publicly about alternative things to do while the rally is going on. Specifically, things more oriented for significant others to do for a day or so.

My wife is going to let me ride solo a day or two so I'm not always limited to the easier stuff, so I'm interested to see what things might be available for her to do. Might need a rental car?

Shopping, day spas, etc would all be good as well as distances from the KOA in Ouray.

I don't think I'm the only one traveling two-up, so hopefully this benefits more than just me ::008::

There is a very nice day spa in downtown Ouray. I haven't been there myself. The KOA is about 2 miles from town. Not too far to walk but there is no trail or sidewalk. I wouldn't say that there is much shopping in Ouray. Telluride would be a better place for the wife to spend the a day. High end shops and galleries and there is a free gondola which is a nice ride. Ridgeway has an interesting downtown that was built to be the set fro the movie True Grit. I think you'll need a rental car. The Best Western rents Jeeps.

I will be two up also but when my wife hears the bike start up she has her gear on and on the back before I am. ;)
Hard for me to take a solo ride which is good for me so I can share all that I see that day. If I asked for a day solo it would be granted
without a :'( but I enjoy it with her better than not so I dont ask, but then again when she says go ahead and go without me, all she sees is dust. :D

So where are we (I mean they) going? ;D

2-up. And she better be hanging on! :)

Actually, one of her yaya sisters is going too. (My bro's wife)
They like to shop. :(
We'll see.

Good idea on the thread.

Intermediate jeep trails around ouray require 2 up AND standing. In my brief time around there, none of the "passes" were too much for two up. I'll say that I chose to make my wife walk a few times and I also chose to ride over some 18" or so stair steps with her on the back.

To put it in perspective, I met a dodge diesel truck coming down engineer pass on our way up.

If the s10 is your first "offroad" bike, yeah, leave your pillion in ouray. Otherwise, you are missing a great opportunity to share something special.

Louisiana and all that North east corner, Some day I hope. I'd like to take Michelle to Newfoundland some day, That would tag all them N.E. states.
Fred are you going to the Colorado rally?

Mount Sneffles sounds great but Michelle got hit by a dirt bike about 6 years ago and it snapped her ankle now it's all pinned together so steep up or down hiking doesn't work good.
We will see when we get there, some days are better that others.

Hi Steve. I would love to do the CO rally, but my son and I always try to make the MSTA national rally and it is the same week as the YST rally in CO. Last year, the MSTA rally was in Avon, CO in June, and we had a great ride there and back. This year, it is in Lexington, KY.

Now, if ya'll wouldn't mind changing the date of the YST rally, I'll be sure to make it. ;)

Maybe next year. :(

Lexington, KY. is only next door for you Fred, you are going to need to take a big detour first to get there. maybe Ouray is on your way.

Yeah, but I'll probably ride to Biloxi first to meet up with my son. Did that last year and made a 4500 mile ride out of our CO trip.

I second the motion to retitle this thread - 2-up in Ouray. ::026::
My wife might want a day off the bike, especially if shopping and/or spa was involved. We're kinda new to the 2-up touring thing, so she might want to socialize over the subject. Then she can give me some tips.

Man this really took off! Thanks for the suggestions. No worries on including routes that might be 2-up feasible, anything the make the trip more enjoyable for folks traveling + 1.

I've never been to the SW part of CO, and I can only assume non-motorcycle related attractions aren't something you can find by just hopping in a car and driving 10 minutes to get to.

Hence me trying to pre-plan just a little bit.

I'm hoping to see some fruit on this thread. My wife doesn't ride, and doesn't really want to drive the truck.

My wife will be flying down to meet us, plans on some of the road rides in the area not the rougher stuff. She will be renting a car so shes not stuck at the campsite while we go play. I'm sure she will want some company.
