I see that there are already lots of options for aftermarket exhaust for the S-10 and was wondering if any have a spark arrestor in them or for that matter does the stock can have one? Im in Caifornia and have been checked for one many times over the years on my dirtbikes. Fitting one is always one of the first mods I do to any dirtbike or dualsport because the fines are more than what a good SA silencer costs.

I know little of the excess regulation and harsh enforcement in CA but I doubt that you would have any issue running a stock streetbike on the dirt roads of any state. Now if you venture off on to the trail systems it could be different. Now that you must have an EPA stamp on your exhaust in CA there are few if any legal aftermarket options.

its got an cat, so sparks are blocked under the angine allready, so without any Baffle you've got youre SA, but beware without any baffle a 125 is a monstersound, a 1200 will be deafining...

The way they test for a Sa is the rangers have a gauge that goes in the exhaust and if it goes in all the way you fail. A Sa is to have a screen or other type of restrictor that limits how far device will enter pipe, really stupid but thats how they check it. Having a cat up stream really does nothing to meet the requirments and if anything the heat would make things even worse for a spark exiting the tailpipe. I would love to look at a S-10 in person to see if its marked as an SA, many of the old Honda trail bikes had it stamped on the pipe from the factory. I know this whole thing sounds rediculous but the rangers take this very serious, Ive been stopped in the desert where the only thing to burn is sand and been checked. I guess I need to go to a ranger station and ask them about this.

Mondo,

To clarify, you have been stopped riding a street bike on a road in the National Forest? About the only thing you could do is insert a screen type spark arrester and modify to fit. Only enforcement I have seen is on dirt bikes and dual sports.

I forgot about the spark arrestor (SA) angle, but I have already ordered the Motorrad Works muffler that Wasp put on his bike which is produced in Australia. I read today that the local dual sport club requires a USFS approved SA and they do a test to see that you do not exceed 92 db sound level! That makes me wonder if there are any local laws that forbid me to use this muffler. If that is the case, I'll just have to rig up some sort of quick change fitting so I can put the stock one back on for those times that I'll be scrutinized by the fire marshall. :-\

Never mind. I just read that spark arrestors are not required in Florida and noise is "unrestricted." ;D

I noticed that the carbon muffler is not currently listed on the available products page for the XT1200Z on the motorradgarge website? I guess that means that they are out of stock? The GPS mount is not listed either? I'm glad that I got my muffler order in already.

Hi there,
I've only just joined this site, & I'm the Sole Australian importer & we also design & do a C/Fibre Muffler for the S-10 comes with a removable baffle as well.
Although the mufflers we have sold so far for the S-10 everyone is running without the baffle as it gives it a great deep sports note (without being annoying to the ears)
If interested I'm looking to get a few to the US & am offering a discount for the first 20 people.
If you go to my site & click on new products here you can see the S-10 muffler we have developed.
Regards,
Chappy.

You'll need to post a picture, at least, of the S10 with your exhaust, and a video with sound would be best. I looked and your site and could not find one.

Chappy - you might wanna get a soundclip on there and also remove the exhaust shroud for a whole can viewing.
There are a bunch of guys going to purchase exhaust cans and probably will be removing the shroud...so the whole can view would be nice too.
YMMV

Hi Chappy,

I checked out the Sound clips on ADVrider. Sounds nice. The second one with the mods you made you flew by so fast I really couldn't get a sense of how loud they really were, sounded good on deceleration though.

Does the larger inlet stick out more from the frame and does the original shields and foot pegs cover everything up nicely.

Looks like you slid the can back and raised the front in the second pic.

Oh, one other thing - Prices are different between advrider and here - typo?

Hi Koinz,
We have actually lowered the whole muffler, while lowering the rear more than front.
We have also changed the rear bracket slightly (more tidy) still double straps.
The larger link pipe still also has plenty of room while fitting neatly under the heat shield.
(Have pictures of the heat shield on the bike on my web site)
www.mcperformance.com.au
(New product section, click on Super Tenere).
The fellow in the video is over 1000 klm away from me)
I can guarantee that they run, look & sound good, the fellow in the Video actually sold his Leo-Vince Muffler in preferance to ours.
I will be doing these at a discount price for a while as want to get these into America (haven't worked out yet) I've actually asked the question to you Guys over there what would you consider a fair price (Discount) Genuine introductory price that would interest you.
5%, 10%, 15% (I'm doing them here at 10% at present including postage Aus wide)
Regards,
Chappy.

OK Everyone.
I've been doing some thinking & have decided that I won't give a discount (Been reading some other post on other mufflers, & they are already dearer than us to start with)
EG: One fellow ended up paying over $1000 US for another brand muffler from Aus.
We don't deal to bike shops only direct to public (So youget a better deal)
Our product is every bit as good as any other in the world & better than most.
So what I'll do to get into the American market is offer free postage on our S-10 Sports mufflers.
For the first 50 customers.
So it's up to you Guys from here.
Regards,
Chappy.
