Yesterday i had chance to ride for a long distance 8 hrs straight only stop for gas filling and some coffee. I have few trouble with the bike.
1. When ride for a 18x miles till the tank is almost dry. In hot weather (110f +) I park at gas station under the sun for coffee brake, then i back to the bike, i have hard time starting the bike, have to hold a start switch for a moment (normally a click) So annoying
So i called dealer he told me is normal sometime, too hot park under direct sunlight, throttle body is dry so press and hold the start button for a while to inject some fuel and is wills start.! is normal... ??

2. long distance ride, for 18x miles. i got out i felt my hands are numb from buzzing vibration. Grip puppies installed but still..

3. on cruise control, hand off my bike always lean toward left... I have to sit a bit to the rigth side.. so the bike will go straight.

Any recommendation??? Thank you

Sounds like a comprehensive list of disaster! I would check that the wheels are correctly fitted and the head bearings are not tight or notchy. Ensure the spokes are correctly tensioned and that the brakes are not binding.

I hope the above helps and I'm sure others will give good pointers on what to check. Best of luck.

I have the same problem in my case it's the rear wheel bearings and loose steering head bearings. The hard start in hot climate happens to me as well but rarely.

My bike always leaned slightly to the left, nothing I did would correct it. Some of the problem was the way I was sitting on the bike, but not all of it, so have someone behind you look at how you are sitting on it.

My guess with the start, is you are getting vapor lock, and the initial prime when you turn the key on is not clearing it. A second more on the starting is just clearing it.

I have the same problem with vibration. I have grip puppies, throttle bodies synced and every is tight. Also been using fuel medic for months. Frustrating isn’t it!!! I would love an answer. I have 26 k miles on it and I put them all on. 2017 model.

update: today the dealer call me and explain about the hard start. He told me that when the bike is hot from a long ride and park under the sun for a while.. i.e. coffee brake.
Euro 4 model has Canister that block/ absorb the evaporated benzine oil.. and sometime the pressure is a bit too high in the gas tank especially when is hot. Solution: open throttle a bit and start , or open the gas cap and close it before start... this will reduce the pressure in the gas tank and make it easy to start...

You're sure that you were leaning? And not the crown of the road making it look like you were leaning? I have experienced that. Optical illusion. Just a thought.
Yeah, buddy riding behind me, was saying I don't sit centered, although it sure seems like it to me.

All those issues are fairly normal for this bike. Here are some suggestions

1. The hard start when hot can be solved by putting the key in and turning the bike to ON, then opening the throttle wide open to closed twice and then start the engine.

2. Your hand is going numb from the angle of the bars, not from vibration. ROX risers and angling your handlebar until its very comfortable for you is the best solution. Also, get a cramp buster and remember to only grip the bars lightly. Death gripping the bars will make them go numb much faster.

3. As for the leaning of the bike, that is very normal and expected for this bike because the drive shaft is on the left side of the swing arm. The driveshaft is actually pulling the rear wheel slightly to the left, causing the bike to track slightly left. You can try to weigh the right side of your bike down to counter act it but it usually doesn't work, its just something you will have to put up with. This one of the areas where a chain drive bike has advantage because you can easily adjust the rear wheel to track perfectly straight.

The gas station part of the story... if you fill up then leave the bike sit in the sun the fuel will expand and foul out the vapour canister causing all sorts of start and running issues. Same story filling up and stopping for lunch. Answer is to fill up before leaving, not when you get there. It has happened to me a couple times, I learn eventually.

The tank has an overfill hose. However the can be clogged from crap in the tank , tip overs, cheap fuel/old fuel and age.

It has two hoses, one for over fill that runs right to the ground, the other is a vent line to the charcoal canister. You puke raw fuel into the canister and all bets are off.

My gen 1 tracks perfectly straight hands-free, provided the road is level

Vapor lock has mostly been eliminated in modern vehicles by placing the fuel pump in the tank and “pushing” the fuel instead up using an external pump that “sucks” the fuel. Keeping the fuel under pressure stops it vaporizing, I.e. no vapor lock, and this is extremely unlikely to be the cause. Having said that, my Ténéré seems to need a little extra cranking after a brief stop in hot weather sometimes.

What year is your Tenere ?
At 180 miles at 40 mpg you should still have about 1.7 gallons of gasoline left in the tank and that’s a long ways from empty, unless I’m in an area where finding fuel might be a problem I usually don’t fill up until sometime after 200 miles
Your hard start issue is very common with the Tenere, there is a thread that’s over 50 pages long with folks talking about it, yes your dealer did give you some good advice about dealing with it. Here is a link to the Hard start thread Good idea to read the entire thread, plenty of good advice there along with a bunch of useless advice. In 50,000 miles my 2013 Tenere had the hard start issue twice and very fortunately both times it happened at home in my garage, so far in 18,000 miles my new 2018 hasn’t had the issue. It cranks way better than the 2013 ever did even after installing the bigger battery.
As far as your handlebar vibration complaints yes the Tenere vibrates a lot compared to my Goldwing but at least for me the main issue was the 2013 didn’t have cruise control so my right hand arm and shoulder would get painfull from holding the throttle , after 50,000 miles I traded for a new 2018 mostly to get cruise control, it was an expensive trade but I’m very thankful to have cruise and lots of other minor improvements. Here is the link to a very helpful handlebar thread.

The vibration thing made me start thinking (& that's rare) I've never noticed any vibes through the bars on my 2014 so on a ride yesterday I was hammering the bike and did notice above 5K rpm there is some handlebar & peg vibes anything below 5K smooth as butter. I could see at extended time riding above 5K the vibes might get to ya. Are you guys commenting on the vibes noticing them below 5K or are ya all riding above that rpm most of time ?
