I just put on the Madstad today. The quality and fit is very good. It got too late and too cold for a test ride by the time I got done, but maybe tomorrow I can get out for a few miles.

I have the Madstad brackets and their 20" shield and they are perfect for me. I'm 6' tall with a 34" inseam and I can keep the shield on just about the lowest position and tilted back halfway and have absolutely no turbulence. I do also have the side deflectors. Now I do have air that comes up from under the handlebars, but it doesn't give me any turbulence around my helmet. Does make for some annoying cool air coming into the chest area during winter time riding, but then again this is an adventure bike not a cruiser.

I have the biggest VStream made for the Tenere and really like it but yesterday I was reading reviews on Revzilla and one guy claimed the Vstream damaged his instrument cluster so now I’m worried. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Acts like magnifying glass under the sun, melts your instrument panel on the top.
I was excited to install this screen on my 2013 XTZ 1200 Tenere, but turned out to be disappointed when after a few week, found out it acts like a magnifying glass under the sun (the radius of the shield) and when you park your bike it melts the top of your instrument cluster and the cover front of it. (250-300$ damage) .Now i have a 200$ dollar shield sitting in my garage and a damaged bike. National cycle should have put some black shading (coating ) on the bottom half of the screen to prevent the sun going through it.

Well turns out there is another very long thread about Tenere gauges getting getting sun damage, seems it has happened with just about brand of windshield including the stock Yamaha windshield when the conditions are right, many folks recommend covering the gauges and that’s most likely what I will start doing when parked in bright sun.

I had a Triumph Explorer before I got the Tenere. I used the Madstad with the 20” as well and even my wife told me that turbulence was a non issue. I had it set all the way down and nearly all the way back. My plan is to go back to the Madstad system. I used the Madstad for 3 years and really liked it. There is a U-tube video from Living off the Slab and he is using the Madstad as well. He road from Boston to Prudo Bay and back on his ‘15 Tenere last year and he was very happey with his as well. Here is the link if you would like to take a peek. https://youtu.be/1RZxv53IBJ0

Mra x-creen... Start there. Others will need to confirm whether it works on the stock screen as I already had a madstad shield and bracket before adding the x-creen. The x-creen actually made it where I could enjoy myself on the bike.

I had the stock screen but also had too much wind so I went down to my graveyard of parts and pulled a old Triumph Thunderbird screen out and mounted it on the bike. It took about three rides to get the cuts right but boy what a difference it makes. I also put the old chrome support on the screen just to cover some holes and I think of my old Triumph when I look at the screen. Works great and cost $0 just takes a bit of time.

The reason I liked the Parabellum on my Gen1 bike was that it is wider.
That’s pretty much why I chose the biggest VStream made , I think it’s as wide or wider than anything else out there, so far I’ve only put about 1,000 miles on with it but It seems to be a major improvement for me.

I had an 03 vstrom 1000 I loved But after 4 shields and one of the cheap spoilers I never could get rid of buffeting. Moved to a 15 s10 with tall Yamaha shield And side deflectors. it was about like the Suzuki after all my efforts so I ordered madstad bracket-twisted throttle had a few left. Disappointing, only marginally better. After lunch one day I pulled out the cheap spoiler and threw it on in the parking lot, TaDa... all turbulence and buffeting gone! Just a bit of wind noise left but I can live with that. Only drawback is I cant see through the distorted spoiler and it’s right below line of sight so anything really close like a pothole look s like a circus funhouse. I will probably get an mra spoiler and hope it works as well and is clear.

I am 6’ with a 32 inseam. Hope this helps someone.

I did not find the rifle windshield in a search. Has anyone used it? I may go that direction on my 2018 if wind is a problem with the stock. 32" inseam, 5'11". Does the Madstad solution still need the Yamaha side airwings?

So far, the stock Yamaha screen on the highest setting does it for me, (6’2” with 33” inseam), but when I put the seat on the high setting, the wind noise returns.

But I have a cunning plan....... 10 years ago, I had a Buell Ulysses which I loved. When I was rooting through my garage the other day, I found the Laminar Lip that I used very successfully on the stock Buell screen. When I offered it up to the Yamaha screen, it looks like it’s made for the job! Next step is to attach it and test ride it. I shall keep you informed......

@Bombadier36 - What Gen bike? I noticed in your sig like you have a Gen II. In terms of buffeting, I found moving the screen closer to me on my Gen II vastly improved things and I didn't need as tall a screen to eliminate buffeting. (I removed the screen adjuster bracket completely and mounted the screen like a Gen I. You need to replace a center trim piece, or cut it, for clearance.) I was running a Med CalSci, but I like some air flow too.

Now, a smooth air pocket could be considered very little wind too. In that case the larger Parabellum or V-stream, CalSci Tall, etc will get you there. The side wings do help, especially with rain.

Torso height is a factor as well. I'm 5' 11" with a 30-31" inseam,, so slightly tall torso'd.

I have clean air now with no buffeting. After reading a few other threads, I keep the windshield in the lowest position and put some rubber spacers under the screen to allow more clean air through to eliminate the “back pressure”.

The thought for a quiet/clean air pocket came after my last long trip. After 7,000 mile of non-buffeting wind hitting my helmet was still a little annoying (wore earplugs).

As others have stated, it’s a motorcycle so it’s part of the open air enjoyment and I really don’t mind it on ”shorter” trips. Just thinking about the longer ones.

I wear ear plugs on every ride. Hearing loss is cumulative and permanent. I think you can come closer to what you're asking for, but perhaps not with a screen you are looking over instead of thru. This is no Goldwing. The add on MRA X-Screen or one of the Chinese copies might be your best, next step.

I use an X screen not for extra height but to manage the air flow off a 22" CeeBailey. Squirts the air right over the top.

I’d like to try your mod. When you say cut the centre trim piece… Do you mean the accessory bar? Would you have any pictures?
Thanks

No, the accessory bar will come off with the factory adjuster bracket. The black plastic V shaped piece with the tuning fork emblem on it that sits on the nose will usually hit the windscreen if you mount it like a Gen I. The Gen I part is ~$5 and fits exactly the same, it's just shaped differently. If you want to try, just remove that trim piece and leave it off. If you like the change, order the Gen I part or trim the Gen II part to allow fit of your screen. The Gen I part is COVER, METER 23P-83559-00-00. #18 on this Diagram.

Ordered and installed the windscreen spoiler. Happy to report the success. It works great so far (short test). I have a long trip scheduled for next month (2000-3000 miles) and it will be put to the test.
Thanks for the help!
