Hi, I have full system exhaust installed on every bike i has.. never has an ear pain problem. However, Full Arrow on S10 on a 7 hrs ride, i felt ear pain only on my left ear where the exhaust is. It seem that S10 exhaust is very high and the pannier, heat shield is some what Echoing the sounds. I installed back the baffle (DB killer) man... is really kill the sounds.. so i took it off again.
Hence, my question is will Ear plug help.. or remove the heat shield?

Or take shorter trips, lol? If you have the oem boxes, I really don't think you want to remove the heat shield as you may melt or deform the plastic in the box. I take it you didn't experience the problems some have reported with aftermarket mufflers melting their left rear turn signal.

With my previous bike, I had a good experience with the Ear Peace plugs (https://www.earpeace.com/products/motorcycle-ear-plugs?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7rbQrc_E6wIVGY-GCh0QgwKbEAAYASACEgI5HfD_BwE). They come with three different centers to give varying amounts of noise reduction, depending on your personal needs. Whatever you decide, good luck.

I like the Howard Leight Max lite earplugs on Amazon, very comfortable and effective. https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Honeywell-Disposable-LPF-1/dp/B000RMFGGY/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Howard+Leight+MAX&qid=1598857196&sr=8-2

Ear plugs FOR SURE ! After almost 35 years on a motor cycle, (not all wearing ear plugs) my ears would be certifiable deft by now with no ear plugs. I already have considerable hearing damage from the years not wearing ear plugs. I have now worn ear plugs for the last 18-20 years... I have the full exhaust system as well on the Tenere, I can go 14-16 hours with no ear problems....

I find the green ones from Walmart are fantastic (for me).. Ive bought, and used these for many-many years.

You really should be wearing ear plugs no matter what bike You ride or what exhaust system you choose to fit.
This is right.

Despite this: been riding loud ass motorcycles with no earplugs, mostly highway, for 20 years. I am now 40. No tinnitus. Still have better hearing than most of my friends of similar age.

I cant explain my lack of hearing damage. I should be fucked up for what ive done to my ears. I cant explain it.

I think i'll just wear the Ear plug from now on.. Thank you guys
Your ears will thank you later. I ended up with tinnitus after going without earplugs for too long. All that wind noise takes a toll little by little.

My tinnitus kicked in at age 52.

Who's skid pan are you using? The side heat shield won't deflect sound in your direction.

Thanks twinrider. That is good information to have. When it kicked in for you, was it bad all at once or did it start slowly?
I'm not sure if it started slowly and I just didn't realize it, but it seemed to come on suddenly. It hasn't gotten worse but there is always a sound like crickets chirping in the background. When I'm focusing on stuff I don't notice it.

Mine is a constant hiss like an ocean wave receding down the beach. No creaking or crackling or chirping, just hissss. Anybody remember late night TV snow? That sort of hiss. Never remember not having it. Started shooting at 9 or ten. Started riding at 14-15. No plugs, wore a helmet, LOL, rode in the back of a pick-up too.

Weight is more a problem of body fat. Bicyclist are the worst at going after a titanium frame that shaves a few pounds but beats the crap out of you because it's to rigid. I have not lost enough weight to worry about reducing the S10's extra poundage. For you fit as a fiddle riders I am jealous and maybe you have a point. Sorry.
