Ok Guys the first piece of my new transformation kit just arrived today.
The infamous ACD skid plate... and this thing is humbly described "JUST HUGE".
It came well packed and quickly. Thumb up for the delivery time. I ordered it from ACD on the 26 december and it was delivered to me in Stockholm on the third of january, free of charge.
i have attached some pictures.
The first thing i ´m concerned about is the sharp edges when , we are talking about knife sharp here (se the pics) and the quality of the weld that dosen´t seem to be penetrating all the way on the joints.

to be continued... ::022::

The edges, not impressive as far as a finished product. Although you shouldn't have to, you can remedy that yourself with some effort and time in an afternoon.

The weld, however, based on the angle of the pic you've shared, that looks like a problem.

The 2 plates weren't fitted / jigged together well leaving that fitment gap at the top that they didn't correct when it was welded. They should have done another weld pass from the inside to fill that gap and leave a weld at least as thick as the original plates.

Fit up between those pieces doesn't look bad in the second pic, but that one token weld on the back side is not impressive. They could/should have done more.

I'd contact the supplier, send some pics and register your concerns just in case it fails in the future. Agree on the inside weld, I tack isn't enough on that joint, it should run full length.

In comparison to the welds on my ACD plate, these look poor and very much half-finished. Maybe you have what we Brits refer to as a "Friday afternoon" skid plate (rushed to finish in order to get off home early). I'll second the idea of using studs to mount the plate at the front too. It makes removal and re-fitting a lot easier, especially as the threads in the bolt holes are very fine and easily crossed. If you have any trouble getting hold of the right studs, let me know and I'll post you a pair. My supplier would only sell the right threaded steel rod to me in 1 meter lengths and I have quite a bit left over. ::)

In the end, how does it perform? If it doesn't the company does have a warranty.

We have a LOT of members with ACD skid plates, including me, and some really have put their plates through a beating. I can't think of anybody ever who had one fail or even mentioned a cracked weld.

I'd be sending it back for an exchange! I'm NOT a welder but that looks halfed-azzed!
I'm not a professional welder, but I am currently taking welding classes at my community college. That is a bad weld. No penetration on one side of the base metal. I would send it back.

Still have no answer from ACD Europe and I'm starting to wonder if they the support is as good as the the USA division. Untill now I'm really not satisfied with this skid plate that seems to be more of a liability then an asset
