Hello,

I have seen some accessory bars for mounting a gps. It goes right over the gauge cluster.

I cannot seem to find one for my 2012. Not sure if they stopped making them. Any ideas?

Thanks

Many have installed madstad brackets for their windscreens. I am guessing the pics you have seen are of bikes with these installed, as they have a horizontal bar as part of the screen bracket.

Gen I bikes did not have that accessory bar. Gen II bikes had that as a stock function. The MadStad adjustable windscreen brackets had that as part of the package.

You can order the OEM parts to install on your 2012 bike.

Thanks EricV. I was on German site while on a recent trip over there. Crazy some of the price differences (ie 100 euro vs. $170 for the screen adapter).

That will work also. I found windscreen adjustments using the bracket improved air flow and reduced noise/buffeting (the main reason for my purchase). A centered GPS mount was a bonus.

$240 +/- is a bit too much.
Cheaper if you order brackets only. $169USD I believe. They are not giving that option...but if one calls them they can get it this way. It looks like it's just a glitch on their website that one can't just order the brackets. Myself, I use the stock windshield on the Madstad brackets.

Be aware that Gen I and Gen II windscreens have different hole patterns. I have mounted a Gen I windscreen on a Gen II Madstad bracket by drilling new holes.

Drilling new holes in the windshield or in the Madstad Gen 2 mount? I ask because I am pondering getting the Madstad mount (I want the ⅞” accessory bar and “support arms”) but would like to be able to mount a Touratech adventure windshield and got wondering if the Touratech windshield will fit onto the Madstad mount. Sounds like it won’t (at least not with drilling)… and I’m not keen to drill holes in the Touratech windshield. Thoughts?

The Gen I screen needed new holes drilled in it to mate to the Gen II Madstad bracket. Madstad sells adjusters for both Gen I and II. If you have a Gen I bike, and that Touratech Adventure screen is for a Gen I, it will bolt right up to a Gen I Madstad mount.

My issue was the used Gen II bike I bought came with a Gen II Madstad adjuster and a huge screen. I disliked both and removed both and mounted a Gen I CalSci Med screen to my Gen II w/o any adjustable brackets. (no drilling required). Then when I sold the Gen I bike I had, the buyer didn't want the huge windscreen, but did want the Gen II Madstad adjuster. So I mounted the Gen II Madstad adjuster to the Gen I bike, (the bike side hole patterns are the same on both Gen I and II), then took my stock Gen I screen and drilled holes in the screen so it would mount to the Gen II hole pattern in the Madstad. Clear as mud!

To recap:

1) All Super Tens have the same bolt pattern on the windscreen arms.
2) Gen I bikes do not have any windscreen adjuster.
3) The windscreen bolt patterns are different between Gen I and Gen II bikes.
4) Madstad sells Gen I adjusters that have the same bolt pattern on both sides.
5) Madstad Gen II adjusters have different bolt patters on each side, one to mate to the bike, and one to mate to the Gen II windscreens.

So as long as you know what Gen your bike is, and what Gen the Touratech adventure windshield is for, you should have no problem deciding which Madstad bracket to purchase.

@EricV Wow! Super helpful / solid answer. Thank you.

I have a 2016 Super Ten 1200 ES, which from what I can see on the Madstad site needs a Gen II mount / adjuster. Which, if I understand your notes correctly, means that the Touratech windscreen won’t fit as it their website says it "Fits Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z".

It seems Touratech don’t make a windshield mount / adjuster for Super Tens older than 2013 / seem to rely on the stock mount for 2014+. My issue with the stock mount / adjuster is that it is pretty flimsy and wobbles a fair bit, especially off-road. And the accessory bar is too thin for me to mount my QuadLock mount onto (which I currently have on the handlebar but want to mount higher so my eyes are more on the road when glancing at the map).

I may have to either settle for the full Madstad Adjustable Windshield System for my S10—though I dislike the look of their windshield and have read good things about the Touratech.

Appreciate any further insights / suggestions you might have.

Once again, thank you for the detailed notes.

@stuartro - Do you already have the TT adventure windshield? They sell them for both Gens. If you go to your link, you will notice that you have to select the year of your bike to order. That tells them which one to send you.

Anything that fits a 2013 will fit as far back as 2010. 2014 is the first year of Gen II bikes. Since those bikes came with an adjuster, I guess Touratech decided not to market one for the newer bikes. The only difference is the hole pattern for the windscreen.

HOWEVER, if you want a Touratech windshield mount/adjuster, the one they sell for 2013 will bolt up to your 2016 w/o modification. The only down side is that you will need to order any windshield for the Gen I, 2013 and older bikes to fit the adapter, and your stock windshield will not bolt to the older style adjuster.

The simplest thing would be to order just a Madstad adjuster w/o screen, and then order the Touratech windsheild for a 2016, Then you could still mount your stock windshield to the Madstad mount too, if you wanted to. You might have to contact Madstand and ask about buying just the adapter w/o a windscreen.

If you prefer the less expensive Touratech adjustable mount, (wow, you never here less expensive and Touratech in the same sentence!), then order it, and the Touratech adventure screen for a 2013 model year. That will fit directly to your 2016 Super Ten with out modification.

There is a very small chance that the black plastic filler piece underneath the bottom of the windscreen will need to be swapped for the early model one. I had to do this to mount the Gen I windscreen to my Gen II bike w/o an adjuster. #18 in this diagram.
