I remember reading that you can, but can't seem to do it. Is it possible? Any tips?

It's a little tricky but it can be done.. Just don't get all bent when the panel rubs on the inner bar.
I have put tape on that spot to prevent from the tight squeeze rub.
It's a matter of orientation taking it off and remembering it when you put it back on.

Yes it can be done easily.

Once you undue the quick locks, pull the panel out, turn clockwise slightly and lift the panel to the left and up, kind of diagonally. You will have to wiggle and fiddle it around but it will come out. It goes back in the same way.

Thanks for the advice guys. Did get it out after a few tries, but cringed at the rubbing trying to put it back on. Gave up and loosened the bar to give me some space.

God help me if I ever need a boost on the side of the road.

Don’t know what brand bars mine are but yes the bars cause it to be a little difficult to remove the right side panel, you would think the manufacturer could have built them allowing just a little more space for about the same cost.

Just look at it this way..
You get a brand new shiny truck, you park it away from the monkeys that will bang into it, you wash it polish it and admire it.
The first time you scratch it it's "Shit"!! The next time it "Dammit"!! after the third time it's now a real pickup truck intended to haul stuff in the back.
You will get over it or you can put a piece of Teflon tape on the panel or bar to avoid scratching.
Simply you can just ride it like a duel sport that's going to get it's bumps and dings.
I don't go out of my way to beat my bike up but i except that it will get it's hard knocks.

Stick a tender lead on the battery so you don't have to take it off.
I did this the second winter I stored mine - I did remove the Motech crash bar to give me more room though. Good advice in the thread to remove the panel without removing the crash bar.

I put a shop towel between the bars and panel so it doesn't scratch the plastic.

I just put a piece of tape on the panel to slide it out, then peel off the tape when back on.
