I thought about that but, it's a chain drive. That has to be less expensive than a drive shaft and all of the associated internals. The frame also looks lighter. Which could be less material, of less cost-effective material. It does have a much higher teched dash.

Suzy was using very similar rims as the Ten on the Strom 650 1000 & 1050 XT models (19" front). But the new 1050 DE (no more 1050XT) uses a 21" tube type on the front... tubeless 17" rear ??
I dont kno what those Suzy folks are thinkin. When the 1050 came out in 2020.. The base model had less tech than the 18-19 1000!
The XT got all the tech incl cruise...
(& the stoopid windshield adjuster accessed by getting off the bike & walkin around the front !?!?! WHAT

My 2014 model 1000 has all the meaningful upgrades that it needed from the 1st gen bikes. The 18-19 bikes had useful upgrades too.

Sounds like a backwards step then.

Massive step in the wrong direction. Tube tires were a significant factor in getting rid of the 690 in favor of the 890. I'm done with them. I hate tube tires like CW hates chain drive bikes. If I were in the market for for a V-Strom that would knock it out of contention.

A lot of people have been critical of Yamaha, and its lack of progressive features such as TFT screens. Some of us have defended Yamaha's choice of features by speaking of the reliability advantage Yamaha enjoys. I just realized that Yamaha does not follow. Neither does it really lead. It chooses it path without regard for other manufacturers. And the lack of a beak is what has brought me to this conclusion. Almost every other adventure bike has a beak. Most likely because of BMW, but it doesn't matter. The Africa Twin does not, and the KTM doesn't . . . . sort of. It's more of an overbite than a beak.

So, when you start wishing for all the latest & greatest, just remember . . . . be careful what you wish for . . . . you might end up with a beak. :D

I've been fortunate to have ridden a 2019 V-Strom 1000 as well as a 2022 V-Strom 1050 XT. Overall imo, this bike is highly underated and an excellent performer. When I first took the 2019 into the twisties, my thoughts were "Multistrada for the masses!" Lol! You can really have some fun with this thing! Relatively light weight, composed chassis, good brakes and a characterful and punchy supertwin derived engine! The 1050 XT definitely felt more refined overall. More of the 2019 to love. I wish I could've taken them both off road but for primarily paved adventures, I'd still prefer the 19" front. More than say 30% off road, I get the 21"er. As well as its tube. If you're out playing out in the wild and your front's carcass has decent damage, I imagine the tube could help you make it back to civilization in okay shape. Either way, amazing and again, underated motorcycle. I hope Suzuki sells loads of em' ;-)

At least Suzy corrected their mistake with the 2020 base models....not having all the new electrotech...especially cruise.

Now the base 23 has all the goodies

It would be nice if Suzuki developed a parallel twin they seem to be well behind the curve there.
