So I picked up my new bike on Friday and did 300KM on Sunday - on a couple of occasions I would be coming to a slow stop and at the end of the stopping cycle I felt like something released within the front brakes. Could this be related to the Unified braking system/ Electronic suspension ????????????

Hi
If you're referring to a " clang " sort of sound don't worry about it, our bikes have floating (?) disks so that's kind of normal.
Hopefully some native speaker will chime in and explain it in a better way:D

Hello Muybig. I have a 2012 super T and mine has always had a little something I could feel in the front brake lever. It is I am sure the valving opening to the rear master cylinder operating the rear brake. I normally only use my front brake and I can feel it a lot more using my method of stopping. It also needs a certain amount of pressure to activate this feeling. So it is always about the same spot on my lever pull. Not sure if that is what you are feeling and hearing but it is very subtle but I feel it and notice it. I have never had a issue with it though as far as stopping the bike. Rest easy if what you are feeling is what I am describing. Enjoy it and ride! You could ask the dealer to make sure all is ok though. You want to make sure brakes are good!

Thank you both - it is a very subtle feeling and it only happened on a couple of occasions. I will certainly discuss with the dealer - thanks

When my 2018 was brandnew the brakes didn’t work anywhere near as well as the 50,000 mile 2013 I traded in, must have been some kind of film on the brake pads and rotors, once that wore off they worked just like my 2013.

I've never felt what you're describing. Are you sure that you're not hitting an oil patch, or something, causing your ABS to activate? ABS activation is the only time I've felt the brakes release.

Cycledude what your talking about i also experienced but this lasted about 50KM - this is probably some sort of antirust chemical that is on the brakes

Sierra1 no oil patches involved and or ABS activation!

I think Fennellg is on the right track - I will reach out to my dealer to try and get a response from Yamaha

Hmmm, not sure if I am giving a right answer but here it is.
It has to do with the unifying brake system. If you use the front brake only, the brake is soft and sometimes strange when you are not used to it. For a strong tough brake press both, rear and front, you will have a very secure brake procedure.

My sound is from the rear but I feel / hear it shifting from the front. In my opinion it can come from either. At first I thought it was rear only, Then I started paying attention and notice the shift from front to rear with the majority of the sound in the rear. Nothing overbearing just different. When something is different I pay attention. My Harley was behaving, different. There was a slight notch or grind when I braked. Front end. I had put 25k on the bike in 9 months. Knew the bike well. They told me nothing wrong. I pressed them and they said it was fine I was just imagining things. I left 10 miles down the road my front bearings disintegrated at 50 in a turn. Fender, rim, tire axel all had to replaced under warranty. Still don’t know how I did not crash.

Lucky, that’s what any of us are, when we survive that type of catastrophic mechanical failure.

Dealers have to check off on a setup sheet that they cleaned the brake disk at setup. Most dealers probable don't clean the oil off.
