Since I messed up on my first attempt at this poll, the forum moderators granted mercy on me, deleted my poll, and gave me a second chance to fix my errors. For those that have already voted, please read carefully as I have made some corrections to the incorrect information on these two campgrounds that may have led you to vote incorrectly .

Well it took way longer than it should've but I've gathered up as much advice and knowledge as I could about potential Black Hills Tenere rally locations. It appears that the best available spots are the Custer Crossing Campground and Crazy Horse Campground. I'll list some pertinent information and a few pros and cons for each location so please go ahead, do your own research, and vote your choice. You may vote for as many choices as you like and we'll do our best with the information gathered to pick a location and available date.

Choice # 1 is Custer Crossing Campground. http://www.custercrossingcampground.com/ Its a nice little campground that has 11 cabins with two queen beds in each for $60.00, a fairly large area for tents for $10.00, and several 30 / 50 amp RV spots for toy haulers for $38.00. This is a nice little campground with 91 octane gas and a small cafe on site.

The Custer Crossing Campground pros and cons are;

Pros are: Gas and cafe on site, Close to Deadwood / Lead area, Cabins, tents and RV will be grouped closely together, hundreds and hundreds of trails and gravel or twisty roads to explore.

Cons are: Remote location 16 miles from Deadwood, 30 miles from Rapid City, Small location With only 11 two bed cabins and a small bath house with 3 showers, This is a small campground that we may out grow if the group gets too large, located in central Black Hills Close to highway 385, Traffic noise may be a concern in a tent, Not much for shade trees in the tent camping area.

Picture of Custer Crossing Campground with Tenere area highlighted. The Southern cabins pictured have now been moved to the highlighted Northern end of the campground giving us a nice group area with room for RVs to the South.

Choice # 2 is Crazy Horse Campground https://www.custercrazyhorsecampground.com/ This is a larger full service campground with 24 cabins with four beds in each for $50.00, very large area for tents for $25.00, and many RV spots for toy haulers for $40.00 for water and electric to $50.00 for full hookups. This is a nice campground that would also allow us to all be grouped together in one area located just North of Custer SD (population 2000) with many restaurant, gas station, grocery, gift stores and other amenities.

The Crazy Horse Campground pros and cons are;

Pros are; Close to city of Custer and all its resources, Close to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial, Large campground with a laundry and two large bath houses that we will not outgrow, Close to Iron Mountain Rd, Needles Hwy, Mt Rushmore, and Crazy Horse monument, Hundreds and hundreds of trails and gravel or twisty roads to explore, Cabins, RVs, tents and shower house all close by to keep our group together, 24 cabins and huge tent area should handle any size group, Hotels less than a mile away for full service cushier accommodations.

Cons are; located in the Southern end of the Black Hills, City of Custer will likely have tourist traffic but it will not affect the back side lower bowl end of the campground, 55 miles form Deadwood / Lead area but could make a nice lunch stop on a day loop ride.

Both these campgrounds would reserve the highlighted areas for the Yamaha Tenere group so we could stay together as much as possible. Both campgrounds would like an answer ASAP as they are anticipating summer calls for reservations soon. I would love to wrap this poll up by Wednesday night and call them Thursday morning to reserve our areas.

Map of the Black Hills and locations of these two campgrounds. As you can see Custer Crossing is farther North closer to the Deadwood, Lead, Sturgis area, and Crazy Horse Campground is farther South closer to the Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State park area.

As I said in the other I will vote for crazy horse since it is 20 minutes west to a cousins ranch and south to friends cabin.

BUT I will make every effort to attend either location at any date. Just need to find a new toy hauler so I can bring the wife and both bikes.

Well, this poll isn't exactly determining a clear choice for date or location so far. Hopefully one or two will stand out in a couple more days.

Too many choices. Maybe pare down the field. Pick two dates (with availability at both places), allow one vote. Then when date settled pick venue.

Will there be any Ducati's there ;)

Will there be mud?

Going to have to keep an eye on this gathering and my calendar.
Shush Doug! I don't want everyone to know how experienced I am at picking up and pushing my buddies Super Teneres out of the mud. If I pull the enclosed trailer, you know I'll have a Ducati or two along to shred Iron Mountain road and Needles Hwy. :cool:

May have found the new toy hauler today. Brand new 2017 that will hold both bikes.

ChecksWrecks this has three burner stove. So maybe you can take a picture of me making pancakes for all from a recliner!

So in an era of social distancing and avoiding crowds many here would prefer the campground that will hold the most people?

Well it looks like we have a pretty clear choice for a date and location. I'll be giving The Crazy Horse campground a call later this morning and reserving a block of cabins, RV, and tent spots. I'll have more information and a new rally thread started later this afternoon with all the information I can gather and make available at this time.

For those that are following this thread and kinda, sorta, maybe thinking you're going to attend. Are you thinking about tent site. Cabin, or toy hauler? I just want a rough idea of what to put on hold for this group.

I looked the grounds over on the Internet and would like to use my hammock tent. Seems they have lots of tree around the sites. I just need to call and see it it’s ok with them. I have all the tree hugger set up

The Lower bowl tent area is surrounded by trees so there should be a nice place to hang a Hammock.
