I priced a 2019 R1250GS loaded for $23,000. That's $7000 more than a 2018 S10 but unless Yamaha makes significant improvements to the 2019 S10, the BMW GS is worth the extra cash.
Do you really think the R1250GS is better value and a better bike? With BMWs past record, you will be paying $7000.00 to be a development rider.

New paint new graphics. Maybe a new color display like the FJ09/Tracer.

The new FJR will probably be black, gray or silver. :(

Maybe to you it would be worth an extra $7000.00 but definitely not me, the nearest bmw is about a 200 mile ride one way and there are only about 2 or 3 BMW dealers in the entire state of Wisconsin.

There is a $2000 discount on the 2018 R1200GS and the R1200GSA Through the end of November...Just saying.

Where did you price this mythical $23k GS? Try actually finding one for that price. Most dealers fully pimp them out and the price is closer to $30k. My wife's '16 GSA was $35k+ out the door. If you wanted a stripped down version you had to special order it and they claimed it would be 6 months wait. I do see GS's advertised for sub 20k prices, just not so sure you can actually buy one for those prices.

Go ride the GS, then ask the dealer how much an aftermarket warranty is for 4 years with unlimited mileage. Add that to the price right away, if they will even sell you an aftermarket warranty. They can't sell you a BMW extended warranty, BMW doesn't offer them. They looked into it, but apparently decided it would lose too much money and never offered that product.

Though not as common, BMW is still suffering final drive failures. And drive shaft failures. And transmission failures. And top end failures. Compare that to the very rare CCT failures a few Super Teneres have had.

My wife's prior BMW cost more in repairs than it did to purchase new up to 80k until the engine burned up. The 30k after that, with a new, hand built, motor from the dealer, was pretty good. Thankfully the aftermarket warranty paid for most of it. The current one has a 10 year, unlimited mileage aftermarket warranty. That wasn't cheap. Around $2500 IIRC. We know better than to own a BMW w/o a good aftermarket warranty. We ride the bikes.

Wow, I'm not sure what dealers some of you are using but I know many friend's that have BMW's and they have never paid anything more than MRSP. As opposed to some of my friends that have bought HD's and have paid above MSRP.
Attached is the MSRP for a 2019 with premium package, engine guards and LED aux lights, just under $23K. I have owned my 2014 S10 since new and the fueling is a PITA, the seat isn't that comfortable and the wind protection not great either.R1250GS.PNG

Talked to a salesman at one of the Yamaha dealers today where I had attempted to buy my 2018 ES. He claims for 2019 all the 1200 Tenere’s are going come with ES , they will have a new colored gauge cluster and the bike will be available in only one color Grey . I have no idea if any of this stuff is true.

What’s this PITA fueling your talking about ? Other than the big money for premium fuel I have not had any fueling issues.

Sorry sir but that is a pipe dream to think you will get a loaded BMW GS for under 23,000 bucks. They are a very popular bike at a premium cost. Dealers do not discount these bikes. Very expensive to buy and own.

I actually considered a GS when I started shopping for my beast. Not sure about the new ones but the air cooled GS's handled very strange and I did not feel safe in the corners. Driveshaft hop and wallowing side to side with small throttle inputs was not my cup of tea. The price and availability of parts was the nail in the coffin to what turned me off. Parts are 3-5 times the cost of Japanese bikes. Don't take my word for it. Please do the research.

For me I don't need status. I'm looking for reliability and function. The Tenere seems to have it so far. I went to a rally at the Mojave National Preserve in May and it was a sea of BMW's and KTM's. Only one Super Tenere and a few Africa wins. The Super Tenere rider went everywhere the KTM's did (and my Beta). I bought the bike a few weeks later. I'm proud to own this bike.

It's not fair to the dealer to post what I paid for it. But it was very cheap for a new bike. Fact is the Super Tenere is not a big seller so it can be discounted.

Guys, I'm looking at the GS NOT GSA!

The fueling issue I have is the on-off throttle response, even in T Mode. With the bike in S mode it's almost un-ridable in the city. Also, I want more power!

Useless they make major changes to the 2019 model, I think I'm jumping ship!

If you have a BMW itch then go scratch it. If you have the means then it's your money, go buy one. They are a nice bike with lots of toys (when fully specced) and are popular for a reason. I test rode one before buying my super10 and really liked it. It was the horror stories of other owners that put me off. You pays your money and takes your choice. I'm happy with my choice...!
