Just wondering

has anyone heard anything re a model update for the super 10 for 2019 ?

the lest few updates were minor and not really a leap forward, more refinement.

id suspect we should be due a new bike now ? Even shave of 25 kgs would be great, and not impossible.

Yamaha has always been really good at not tipping their hand on updates, even to their own dealers. For them to introduce it over the winter, the design should be pretty well locked down by now but my guess is that there are only a few people at corporate in Cypress California who really know anything at this point.

Yamaha is pretty "par for the course".... I believe the Tenere will continue getting older like the FJR (and others). In my opinion, one day they will change the dash to a full color screen with some type of Gorilla glass. Add a few new tech items to hook up to your phone / maps.... Probably be able to read face book on your dash on your next trip, LOL..... Add 1HP and maybe change the windshield or front fender plastic. With the FJR, there have been changes over the last ten years, but not a HOLY COW moment of changes IMOP, 95% still the same as the 2008

So, Probably the only changes until at least 2022 will be paint. LOL

On the other end of the spectrum, with designing, developing, and producing new bikes "almost" to fast would be a company like KTM. There model cycle seems to be crazy fast with style and updates. That can be a good thing and a bad thing just depending on who the perspective buyer might be. They find a need or a want in a motorcycle category and BAM !!! They have it out the next year. (basically)

The Super Tenere is a fantastic motorcycle and Yamaha will probably just sit on a good thing with minor changes over the next few [many] years.

If there aren't any significant improvements for 2019 I will wait until 2020 for a new Look.

Just my guess ... Euro 5/6 is coming the motorcycles in Jan 2020... probably Yamaha will can the FJR and update the Tenere with a MultiStrada to cover both bikes.

When and if they "upgrade" I hope they don't ruin the bike. The new goldwing for example. Everyone bitched for 17 straight years for a new bike, now it's reality, and a huge downgrade over the older model for most guys that owned and enjoyed the older one.

some interesting replies.....

i do no argue the s10 isnt a great bike....

im just looking for a little more. Its super planted, super smooth but a tweak here and there would do no harm.

Beemw are set to launch a new 1250 gs for 2019, so yamaha really need to stay in the running. It has a dogged label of being heavy and slow, which it isnt really for what it is. But they need to move the game on a little.

im on my second 1st gen, and the second gen with small tweaks and elec suspension were not enough for me.

i want another 15/20 bhp and shed a few kgs with a styling tweak. Not a lost to ask for.

we'll see in time. But if i hear anything i will be sure to post here.

Sorry, but you are the problem customer. You want, but have no need for what you want. Some companies cave to this and you end up with silly bikes that can't be used on the street at the potential they have. Do you really use all of what you have now? Very, very few riders do. I have yet to meet a person that can use all of what is available on the street, (or off pavement for the Super Ten). And still, everyone wants more stuff, but less weight. Less weight is more expensive than giving you more stuff, so when it happens, you get your more stuff, and more weight, and more cost to go with it.

Buy a KTM and see how you like that.

I did, and I'm loving the power, less weight, and equal handling on the street. It's phenomenal in the dirt, but I have to admit, I miss the driveshaft...

There you go! A bike for everyone. ::012::

Did you really bounce off the rev limiter every ride with the S10?

YES....... I DO.......... LOL. ::26::

That one time in band camp (funny movie quote for the folks that don't know)..... I was blasting though 1/2 mile long silt bed just south of Moab, Mmmmmmmmmmm POW--- Pow,....MMmmmmMMmmmmm. Pow..... Pow.....
(my rev limiter sound) LOL

On a serious note, I'm human and love motorcycles. People always look at other bikes and maybe want something 'new'. I have before, but every time I ride my Tenere I tell me self, this bike has more than enough power and will take me anywhere I want to go..... It will still do 100 off road and blast everything, on or off road Ive ever wanted to do..... Still love it ! !

I lead a group of fast experience riders on one of the rides of the MSTA STAR in La Crosse. Some are regulars at track days. In the pack were 3 MultiStradas and one BMW S1000R. Very fast bikes. I can assure you they all were very much entertained. I don’t think the Tenere is lacking power up to about 5500 RPM. It is above that that it just become buzzy and the powerful bikes on my list become super powerful. I don’t think you can take full advantage of this kind of power on the street even if you not fully complying with the Law.
That being said, I am very interested in the New KTM Super ADV 1290S, mostly for the weight reduction.

I don't think Yamaha cares about the difference in the power between the S10 and GS, or the other adventure bikes. If they did, it would have been changed several years ago. The 1200GS has been out for awhile. I think they like the reduced HP, as they know you really can not use the 125+ HP, and like the idea of the reliability of the engine. Try and find anywhere the S10 can't go that the GS can.

I would be scared of the new GS. The history of mechanical issues on new or updated bikes from BMW is pretty sad.

I would think they may update the headlight to LED, possible update dash to the TFT, and a couple of minor refinements taken from other models. Not a whole lot you can do to the bike without some major redesign work. And they have a bunch of money tied up in the new T700.

::026:: with HeliMark, EricV, and RonH. Don't fix what ain't broke. I'm 300lbs, and am capable of flogging a bike. The Tenere in "S" provides plenty of "snap" off of the line, to the point of lifting the wheel. All with providing great reliability? Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks that way. Would the FJR motor in the Tenere actually be a good thing?

The improvements I would like are...
... Better handlebar position for the average rider. This is based on probably 90% of the Super Tenere's have a riser of some sort.
... Horse Power increase, I don't think so. There are many companies offering to change the ECU mapping which will make the existing horse power more usable.
... The BIG thing for me would be a DASH that could be read easily. If that meant Color I would be very happy.
... ES Tenere's: Rear Shock Spring: I don't know any rider that has the Preload set to the Helmet (one rider, no luggage). An increase in the rear shock spring rate would be nice especially for 2up traveler's and luggage.
... Improved Headlights. The stock headlights don't do it for me. Yes I can add additional lighting but why should we have to do this. If not the lights why not the accessory switched lighting connections included.
... Better wind coverage from the hand guards.
... Storage is not available on the Gen2 ES models. Under the seat and right side cover is filled with ES.

... LOVE the brakes.
... Both windshields work for me.
... The turn signals / flashers are very good on the Gen2.
... Very good gas mileage and fuel tank size.
... Gen2 wheels are very good.
... I am not unhappy with the stock exhaust. If I wanted / needed better performance I would have the ECU flashed.

Just my thoughts

I have no interest in more horse power, the Tenere has more than I need already. What I do want is better headlights, better gauge cluster, self canceling turn signals, cruise control, better mpg and burn regular gas instead of the way over priced premium.

Projector headlights are what they are. You can change color temp and output to a degree, but nothing transforming. Gauge cluster - What do you want that you don't have? CC is standard on Gen II bikes already, so 2014-on. Regular gas - So fill with that. It runs fine on it until you get to very high temps or heavy throttle use.

Yes, I ignored the self canceling turn signals. ;) That's a love or hate feature and Yamaha goes back and forth, depending on the engineers in charge. I'm in the hate it camp. Build muscle memory. ;D
