First time today. Bike ran for about 35 miles. Parked up. Grabbed a hot dog. About 45 mins later...
Side stand up, ignition on, start, fires up, 1st gear, ready to pull off. Dead. Completely. All electrics shutdown. Dashboard dead.

The only thing I could think off was the side stand switch. Fiddled with it, igniting on. Off again. 3rd 4th try it stayed fired and I rode it back up to 1/2 mile from home.

During the ride home, when coming to stop sign or having to stop, I had to keep bike moving and rev up. Throttle became jerky.

Clock and trip 1 & 2 reset.
At one point TCS light, ABS light and the ‘shock/exclamation’ warning light came on.

Same thing 1/2 mile from home.
Had to slow down and bike died. Again fiddle with the side stand switch. Few minutes and it fired up. Ride it home. Parked it. And now multiple tries and I can’t replicate the problem.

What should I be checking for?

Well, sounds like power problem/shortcut
I would disconnect all "farkle" equipment for starters..
The sidestandswitch...hmm....could just be coinsidence

Sidestand switch may be a red herring. As was stated, I’d check battery and connections. Almost sounds like voltage is dropping enough to shut everything down.

It must be an energy problem. If the battery terminals are tight, check these too. The thing about the dash lights, not complete the autocheck, all error codes that have to be deleted

the suspension menu should have disappeared, the part referring to + - 3 and the part of the helmets (1,2 and load). Do you have access to the diagnostic menu from the dashboard?

for now,

the + battery terminal appeared to be loose. I cleaned the terminals and tightened them. Dashboard and lights as per normal. No problems.
And now on battery tender.
I’ll test ride tomorrow close to home to see if that happens again.

Will report. Thank you all in the meantime.

Glad to hear it. Happened to me on my Harley a few years back. Had it in the shop and it cut out on the highway. Everything went dead. The tech did not tighten the battery cables. 2nd time a So called professional almost got me killed. I now do as much work on my bike as I can my self.

Funny thing happened after. I stopped having those life threatening episodes. I think there is a direct correlation.

If I am going to buy it because of incompetence I want it to be by my own hand. I literally have skin in the game. :)
You got that right.

Torque spec for the battery terminals is 30 in/lb in case anyone cares. These are bolts I use a torque wrench on.

I had EXACTLY the same problems whilst touring Europe a few years ago. I was in Germany and my first thought was my trip was over!

Like you it turned out to be a loose battery terminal (negative in my case). Totally my fault as I had been checking/fiddling with the battery connections before I left home

I removed the RH side cover today and determined that the battery terminals were secure. I had a good look around the wiring to see if I could find anything loose or abnormal.
All good. Hopefully I will not experience any more episodes of difficulty when starting the bike.

Thanks all. Correct. When you get stuck, best to step back. Deep breaths and plan action steps.
Test ride of 30 miles done. Stop and go. Turn off and on. All good. All instrumentation back to normal. No warning lights.

just one problem. It was very hard NOT to take some turns making the test ride longer.

The Possibility of loose battery connections is the main reason I always carry a 10mm nut driver, a screwdriver simply isn’t good enough.
years ago a friend left his 4 wheeler by my place and said you use it for awhile to see if you can figure out what’s wrong with it, he said it would start and run fine one day and then not the next day. Well the first day I had it everything worked fine, the next morning it wouldn’t even crank over but one pull on the starter rope and it started right up. I checked the battery connections and they seemed snug enough but I cleaned and tightened the connections and it never happened again.
