We are bringing in off-pavement training and expect that the classes will fill fast. The instructors will be from XPLOR-INT of Nottingham, PA.
http://www.xplor-int.com/Pages/default.aspx

These one-day classes will begin at the dealership on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29. This means that you can improve on what you know before the big ride-outs which peak on Saturday. Classes will happen in any weather short of hurricanes or lightning. Class sizes are expected to be about 8-10 each.

The morning will start with basics in a field, such as setting up the bike and balance drills, progress from walking drills and obstacle techniques, then once each class has the basics down - work up to an afternoon ride on local dirt roads. Expect to learn K-turns, turns on a slope, failed hill climbs, and reading lines on rutted hilly tracks. IF the weather participates and IF the instructor thinks the class is ready, expect stream crossings. It will be a full day!

OK, here is the incredible part. Alain of XPLOR already knew of our event and that part of the Camp-N-Ride is to support the WV School For The Deaf and Blind. No, that's not the incredible part. What IS INCREDIBLE, is that he is willing to cut the price to $100 per student, PROVIDED that you students give a contribution of your own choice to the school! If you've ever priced off-road riding instruction, you'll recognize that this is a true sweet-heart deal, both to you and to the kids. Pay XPLOR when you sign up and what you choose to donate to the school is on the honor system; given to us organizers or directly to the school.

Expect minimum equipment requirements for you and for your bike. For you: helmet, jacket, long pants, boots over the ankle, etc. BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS AND LUNCH to have on-site. For your bike, knobby tires are not required but the less road-oriented the tires are the more you may enjoy the class. For your own good and to save time, leave the panniers and top boxes at the campsite. Alain will provide further details as you sign up with him.

From Alain, here are the documents and ways to sign up for the classes.

We are really excited to be able to bring this opportunity to the event and think that it is a win-win for us as owner/riders, the event, and for the school! And when you think you've outgrown the capabilities of whatever it is you are riding, please remember that Romney Cycle Center is a multi-line dealer with great prices.

Some words of legal mumbo-jumbo: While we are really excited to bring in this opportunity, this training is offered by a business which is separate from Romney Cycle Center and from the event organizers. While this training is based in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) curriculum which XPLOR-INT has used to train many students successfully, Romney Cycle Center and the organizers have no control over the classes or curriculum. All payment, contact, and instruction is between you as an individual and XPLOR-INT. XPLOR-INT is a Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association Retail Operated Center (ROC)E-mail: xplor@live.com
You are responsible for your own safety and staying within your own limits of what you and your machine can do, no matter what anybody else says or does.

Feel free to pm me &/or Dirt_Dad if you have comments, good or bad.

Seriously, my wife and I are considering a long trip on a gravel road. If we do I'm getting one of those ratchet on a stick things.

Between ADV and Stromtrooper I've seen at least 3 other people report they were signed up.

Oops...just went over to Trooper... make that 4 other people reporting.

Thursday you will have a nearly private lesson, which would be really cool.
Friday is more than half sold out, so if you want to do the class you need to sign up and send him the $100.

Again - This is a STEAL of a price! For comparison, the single day offload class that BMW offers is $635.

Be aware that if you want to get the class at the $100 price, you better sign up quick. The dealership is about to put out announcements to fill the slots which we haven't taken. I'm sure the slots will go fast when the announcements go out to the dealership email list.
