Never seen that before. Any error codes?

Next thought would be what things have you added to the bike? And any recent work done?

You need to put it in diagnostic mode to check for error codes. As for accessories, I'm really thinking of things like O2 block off and Power commander type of things.

I would check all the ground wires. A bad ground will cause weird things like this.
already i added extra grounds from engine to the frame and some extra wires to the wiring harness, checked all connectors and cleaned them

This would be a little easier if you told us where you are in the world, and if the bike is a EU bike or a US bike and what model year it is. I'm guessing you're EU and it's a Gen I bike. I don't have a Gen I FSM any more, so some of my info will not apply.

I looked up in my US FSM for 14'-15' model years and Err would indicate "Abnormal meter assembly communication (meter assembly cannot receive CAN communication data.)"

It's suggesting "Check the engine trouble warning light and electronically adjustable suspension warning light. All lights come on - go to item 2. Only engine warning light comes on - Go to abnormal EC{U communication.

The meter assembly may not be connected correction or have corrosion in the plug. Check for bent pins and if the latch on the plug is secure. Male sure all the wire pins are fully seated in the plugs. Check that area of the harness for damage.

After that it talks about replacing the harness to the meter. Then replacing the meter. Next is replacing the ECU.

If you put it into diagnostic mode you may get more specific codes that will point at items to check. You can also clear all the codes and see if any return. There are instructions on how to do this here on the forum. Do a search.

The exact wording for Er-3 in the Gen 1 service manual is: "ECU internal malfunction (output signal error): data from the ECU cannot be received correctly." Possible causes listed are wiring problem, display problem, or ECU problem.

OP - You said the bike sat idle "for many years". Assuming the bike ran normally before that, I would focus on that factor. It's very unlikely that the display or ECU electronics would go bad while it was sitting there. That leaves a wiring/connector problem. If the bike was stored in a bad environment then all kinds of problems could be lurking, but it sounded like the engine was running fine in your video. You said you inspected and cleaned all connectors but I would recommend getting a wiring diagram and going through it all again.

Good luck.

Here is a link that gives descriptions of Yamaha fault codes.
https://www.motorcycle-manual.com/yamaha-fault-codes/

Look down the list for ER-3.

Er-3 - it is impossible to consider the testimony from the ignition module;

i did put the bike in a diagnostic mode and cleared all restored codes and nothing new came on
the bike is in EU but there is some story behind it,
it was bought from an insurance auction from uk and it had a lot o damage it has missing the dashboard
and had no keys
so the dashboard is from Ebay and a lock smith mad me some keys (immobilizer)
after finished the bike and put it together i road test it for 2 days and all was perfect
then in the 3 ed day i got the er3

Since you have an immobilizer key, it's a EU bike. (Some bikes found in the UK can be US bikes sold late). I don't think the dash would be any different as long as it's the same Generation. 2010 - 2013 are Gen I. 2014 - on are Gen II.

Look for crash damage to the wiring harness from the meter to the main harness. I suspect you're getting a bad signal or no signal from something. Pay close attention to any spot on the harness where you re-secured it. Look for rubbing or chafing against the wires.

Hey ! I have the same problem and can't find a solution. After I reset the errors, the dashboard is fine, but after 10 minutes of riding the ER-e error pops up. The RPM needle goes wild just like yours did, Noyo, and the engine light flashes. Noyo, can you tell me how can I get to that wire ? Something tells me I have the same problem with that wire
