Pulled my ECU from my 2018 ES and sent it up to Two Wheel Dynoworks in Kirkland WA last week. They did the reflash and had it coming back to me within a day of receiving it. Received it yesterday and put it back in the bike last night... rode it to work this morning and MAN!!!!!!! What a difference!!! Feels like a whole new bike... engine decel (my main complaint) is now like it should be... smooth, 1-3 gears are way way more powerful, and the bike runs like it should now! Coming from a 2015 BMW R1200gsa, I was pretty critical of some of the "feeling" I was getting from the Tenere... now... totally happy!

So, long story short... well worth the couple hundred bucks to get these guys to hook up your ECU!! Nate Phipps was awesome to deal with.

I agree I just had my 2017 es done by Two Wheel DynoWorks last week. Nate was great to work with, he explained exactly what would be done ( fuel mapping, timing changes, lowering temp. activation for cooling fan and other changes I don’t know much about) and how it would affect the bike. Told him what exhaust I had, where I was located, Nate promised I would be happy with the flash and if not they would redo it until I was. He also said as long as I owned the bike, any changes I made that would affect the running ( air filter, headers etc.) with the current flash that they would redo it for free. The flash really made the bike feel totally better in all gears, smother throttle, less decel on throttle release. I’m sure there is no more horse power but it uses the horse power it has more efficiently. I’m sure other flashes are just as good but I liked the warranty they provide if it ever needs to be reflashed for any reason and following their Facebook page they seem to be very respected in the industry. I’m very happy with the results.

so they did yours for $200 ? That must be the lowest price I’ve heard, I really should get mine done.

well after a little research it looks like a reflash from Two Wheel Dynoworks would probably cost $240 plus shipping ?

Did you simply follow the instructions on the site to order or did you discuss with anyone in advance before sending in the ECU?

I'm headed up there next Tuesday to get my ecu reflashed on my 18' S10es as well. I've read a lot about how it helps on the on/off throttle jerkiness and having the cooling fan come on earlier. These are my 2 'gripes' on the bike, but aparently the 'standard reflash' service includes a lot more changes that improves the 'performance' of the bike, so I'm really looking forward to it. After the reflash, do I need to disconnect/remove my O2 senor on the bike? Also, anyone here had their ecu reflash after header pipr/muffler/air-filter changed? I saw the Youtube vide by Fortnine that Yamaha has hidden extra 20hp which I'd like to tap into.

No need to do anything to the O2 sensor. Just plug and play the ECU. Panman's '14 is running a header with stock can, bike seems to run really well with the 2WDW flash. Have the flash on my '18 too...you'll like the end result!

Awesome! Thanks for your reply!

I didn't knonw you can run just the 'headers' with stock muffler! I like it "quiet" ... I had a Delcvic slip-on & I just couldn't get used to it with/wihout baffle. I think I'll do just the 'headers' next!!!

im leaning to do a refresh myself .... if it will take the jerkiness out of the throttle ,and reduce the engine braking I will be doing mine soon. probably in September , would love to do a fall trip with an improved Tenere.

Had mine done by 2 Wheel DynoWorks this past June before doing a Four Corners tour. Their flash will definitely smooth everything out (I have the stock headers and can). It made the trip and every glorious hairpin I hit, SO much more enjoyable!

Nice...Madhatter, any in-sight to 'pros/cons' of reflash? Maybe aside from a "header" change in the future, I'm pretty much planning to stay in 'stock' trim myself. Will retain 'both' riding modes (Tour/Sport)?

kmasa58, if I may chime in, no discernable cons with my experience. Per phone conversation with 2 Wheel DynoWorks prior to sending my ECU in, I learned the following:

* The standard flash will work with all the major slip on exhausts.

* The standard flash will work with upgraded air filters (that fit IN the OEM airbox, not airbox mods, removal, etc.)

* A specific flash will be needed if you change headers

* Both riding modes are retained post-flash

I have more write-up notes in another thread of similar subject here: https://yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/ecu-flash-on-newer-model.30135/post-450089

I may be in the minority but I love the deceleration/engine braking when I get off of the throttle.
I certainly don't need any more horse power and the only time I experience initial throttle 'jerkyness' is in Sport mode.
I can find another use for 250 smack-a-roons!
Regards,

im so annoyed with the stock settings I'm considering trading for something else . re-flash is my last hope to save this relationship.
Believe me, I felt the EXACT same way! The flash absolutely changed things for the better and recommited me to this velvet tank. Night and day difference. I'm in it for the long haul now. ;-)

It (my 2nd gen) is really a great bike as-is. I'm with you there. I just wanted it all smoothed out, and this particular flash did that. I don't know if any more hp occurred and I don't really care. Just wanted the smoothness.

I've ridden a lot of different bikes recently (incl. all the current Euro and Japanese big bore ADVs) and this flash gives it a premium bike fueling feel. I can say that with zero hesitation. If you have the opportunity to do an A to B comparison, definitely take it. A fellow inmate here in San Antonio, TX, did just that on one of our recent weekend meetups (he's had his gen 2 over 5 years). He's now planning on sending his ECU in ;-)

Lastly, most of my hesitancy was due to the price of the flash. As someone who routinely holds dollar bills so tight they scream, I was a bit offended. Lol! Following the flash, I would've paid more (!) Can't believe I wrote that, but it's true.

With all that stated, I can definitely appreciate and respect that any S10 pilot is more than satisfied with the bike as-is. It really is a great overall package!

Yes, we are in the minority. This last week, I thought my clutch was going, or I had some bad gas. I normally don't use a clutch once I start rolling. Her normal smoothness was off. Around town, she just wasn't acting her normal awesome self. On the highway, in 6th, everything seemed normal though. After killing it taking off from a red light, I knew something was wrong. I looked closer at the dash. . . . and saw that "T". Switched her back to "S", the world became right again, and the angels began to sing. :D I don't know how she ended up in "T"; I'm sure I'm the culprit.

But, yeah, as-is, bone stock . . . . my favorite bike ever.
