I looking to take the opportunity to get my bikes 12,000 mile service done whilst it's in for some repair work, after being rear ended a few weeks ago. The service was originally planned for next spring but my dealer is offering me a fairly healthy discount if I get it done now, as he says the bike will be partially stripped for all the repair work to be done anyway. However, i'm just wondering as to what is actually done in the 12,000 mile service, as the workshop manager is saying that they won't need to even look at the valves until 24,000 miles.

Does anyone here know what the work schedule for this service is? I'm not normally an entirely cynical person but it'll help me to work out whether i'm actually getting a good deal or not?

On the USA bike maintenance schedule, the only major item at 12,000 miles is spark plug replacement and an oil change. Everything else is basically a check over. That said, I just replaced my spark plugs for the first time at 27,300 miles and they still looked decent. My valves clearances were in spec at 27,300 miles also.

You might consider having him quote the 24,000 mile service early. If he does in fact have the bike well apart you could save a chunk of money.

True, but the UK service schedule is different than ours.
