I've been looking at my options for a good tire that can do tarmac and fire roads. How do these handle in wet conditions?

Thats what i would like to know. Looked at some reviews and they were the hardest tyre. Which suggests to me but i may be wrong that the wet grip would be a trade off. If they are good enough in the wet i would go for them. At the moment for what i do they may be not street enough. Understand why you guys would like them though.

Yeah, I just slipped on my 2nd set of TMs.... They didn't HAVE to be replaced, but they were at the wear bars and I don't usually push much further than that..

I ride everyday and have since late 80s, the S10 is the bike I switch over to this time of year, I don't like riding rain with low tread. My guess pulling them was around 5k. I was shocked to see my records and theyve been through 10k! Ive never got more than 5k out of tires on any of my bikes.

Keep in mind, I have no issues playing with crothrocketeers in the twisties along with the touring and commuting duties and have never felt worried about ripping on em (can't say that for other 50/50). Not usually a Dunlop guy for tires (usually Michelins), but I'm a big fan of these TMs on the S10 as a 50/50.

I give em

That's a solid review and recommendation. I'll take a look at them.

Im not a big "going crazy offroad" guy on my S10 (I have a KTM 300 XCW for ripping that), but will do fire road and technical Jeep trail at a good clip on it. They work very well for my type of S10 offroad also. Ive really had no cons with these tires. I doubt you'll be unhappy with them, unless you're a technical single-track offroad guy.

Naw, I'm a fire road/forest road rider at best. This bike is way more capable than me off road so I just need tires that don't washout in the occasional gravel or loose dirt. Sounds like these will do the job.
I was looking at the Shinko 705s because they are cheap and I wouldn't feel bad about pulling them off and tossing them if I don't like their street performance, but obviously having tires that can do both pretty well is a better deal in the long run.

I was very happy with mine, good on road, good off road, decent in the wet. They are a good fit for the S10, they are not the best off road, they are not the best on road, not the best in the rain either. However as an overall package I really liked them and had over 18,000km when I sold the bike. The front passed safety but the rear was right on the limit. I did get a loud Humm from around 85kph to about 95kph but not sure if it was the wheel being out of balance or from the tires. If I was going to replace them I was going to try one of the Motoz but if they were out of stock I would get the Missions again. In the wet I thought they were way better than the Shinkos I had on before them.

I’ve got 35,000 km and counting on my rear Trailmax Mission tire. The tire handles extremely well in the twisties. In the rain, I switch to touring mode as the tire spins easily in sport mode on wet roads with traction control on. I only have a few thousand kilometres on the front tire TM but so far, no issues.

One of the guys on my recent trip to Valencia fitted them to his Tiger for the trip. The rest of us were on Michelin Adventures and PR5,6s, Metzeler Tourances or Conti TA3s. The two bikes that went down in the snow in the Pyrenees were the two on TA3s:rolleyes:, but he was the one always at the back. And by the time we got back to Portsmouth he was planning they’re replacement. In his opinion they’re not road tyres.

Just coming up to 6.5k miles on my rear Anakee wilds. It’ll need changing very soon. It’s been much better than I was expecting on the road and certainly gives confidence on our muddy wet local roads so I’ll put another one on soon. Not sure if the front will last as long as two rears. Doesn’t look like it.

Interesting. The TA3 seem to have more cut in them than the PR5/6 i would have thought they would have out performed them. The Adventures look to be good tyre.

Just bad luck. I followed two other guys at the same pace, in the same tracks but went down with literally no warning. My mate behind was just a bit to close and fell trying to avoid me. The rest all stayed up, including an R1250RS on ordinary Roadsmarts.

I might be a dumbass but I get 33k miles (not km) out of the rears and 20k miles out of the front. Changing front tomorrow.

They wear great and aren’t too bad in the rain. Like someone else already wrote, switching to tour mode and not riding the twisties like it’s dry they’ll be fine.

My front is making a crazy howl around the same speed range. Its loud, like really loud but with no vibration. Only have about 750 KMs on it as was wishfully thinking it was just braking in the tire. Will try to re-balance in the springtime I guess but funny that someone else is reporting the same issue.

Mine didn't vibrate but I was not sure if it was out of balance or not since I could not figure out why it would make that noise then. My friend has them on his Tiger and has no issues. Glad to hear that I was not just hearing things!

In the extreme cold/wet (<40) they can be slightly slippy at backroad intersections. Taking it easy is fine. Above that temp, the tires have been killer in the rain. I unexpectedly hit at least 8 inches of standing water in the dark on my way to work this morning. I was only going about 40 but still was unable to see. The tires were perfectly planted.

Last summer I rode 96 miles in torrential rains so heavy that they set records for the Bristol, VA region. Semis were pulled over it was so bad.

The old, half-worn set were absolutely perfect the whole way.

Great tires. On my second set now.
