What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Im not sure what keeps changing on the tensioners but my original i can screw in and compress with my hand. The updated one i put in years ago i had to use a clamp. Not sure about the tolorances of the machined parts but it did have a lot stronger spring. The spiral locking part felt a lot...

What comes after the Super Tenere?

I am right there with you. I will ride my super t till i cant get parts for it. It fits my needs almost perfectly. The trouble is nothing on the new bike market is really what i would need or want. I am a firm believer in less tech is better. If my new bike needs software updates every few...

Have sales strategies changed or am I just getting old?

About 40 years ago i stumbled across a dealer that really helped me out. From that day on i never had any desire to go any place else. They knew everything about every machine they ever sold! Amazing wealth of information stored in the minds of the workers and owners. I bought new bikes used...

Have sales strategies changed or am I just getting old?

I think everything is changing in the motorcycle industry. It seems they want you to put a deposit down and wait on a bike you have not rode or seen. they just don't seem to keep bikes on the floor any more. I have to admit I see the bike industry being a hard place to survive these days. Not...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I can't say for sure what Yamaha's conclusions were on the timing chain tensioner failures were but my original tensioner spring and locking system would not always hold till the unit built oil pressure. So every now and then on a cold start it would clatter and rattle for a second or two. I am...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I have a gen 2 timing chain tensioner in my 2012. the tensioner has around 80,000 miles on it and seems fine. I remember when all the bikes I was around came from the factory with manual timing chain tensioners. Never had any trouble adjusting them and they really didn't need it much. It was...

    Key Problems

Hello mituk. I have a FJR1300 that the key only works with it inserted one direction. It is the original key as well. I have the second key and it will work both ways. They both take the seat off just fine. Not sure why but it has never given me any issues. the dealer i used to use also cut keys...

    Steering head bearing replacement

I have never changed the steering bearings on my Super T so I don't know just how it is put together. I am sure it is like the other bikes I have done. on all my dirt bikes and my kids bikes over the years I just use a press and push the steering stem out of the lower triple clamp and the...

For all y'all fans of the DR.

Yep AX 41 is what they are. Missed putting that on there. So far they have been good for the DR. I think they would be good on the Super T but I feel like I ride too many miles on the Super T for a tire like that. I will see how things hold up on the DR.

What TenereGUY has been up too

great place to ride! Been on all those roads several times and crossed several gravel roads around the area. I like the off season there better. Not as crowded. Looks like you all had a great time but the armadillo not so much!

Lowering the fork legs in the triple clamp; how deep can I go?

Depending on what tires I am running I will lower my triple clamps on my forks. Of course this is the opposite direction that you want to go but I did have my clamping surface of my forks up in the clamp of the lower triple clamp by about 5 or 6 mm. I never had any trouble doing that. I have ran...

For all y'all fans of the DR.

I really dont need a true 50/50 tire on my super T but i just put these on my DR this morning and rode down to mow grass at moms place. They are quiet smooth and feel good. They feel really tough and ready for big hits. I do off road on my DR so they may be nice. If they work out ok i may put...

    Most comfortable ear plugs?

Yes when helmets started having space for speakers and getting all kinds of trim things on them is when i really started having trouble with wind noise. The last helmet i used i packed the speaker holes with bits of fabric to fill the space to keep cold off my ears in the winter and found it...

    Most comfortable ear plugs?

Most of the time on my super T it is pretty quiet. On my DR though the wind noise gets to me. I have done 300 mile days on it but i usually use some ear plugs that are provided at my job. Yep im cheap. They are angled foam plugs on a string. I cut the string off when i used them on the bike.

    The anything thread.

Hey Sierra1 im pretty sure that is the feller you call ass hat that tears up bikes. I watched part of that video he made in the sand on that bike. Not sure how he is paying for all the work and bikes. I dont think i could afford that.

    Shinko 705: A cautionary tale

I see people saying just stop and get a tire. Don't worry about it. I have been out crossing the country on two different trips that I had a tire issues. I would stop at every bike shop I saw to try and find a tire. One trip I stopped at bike shops in five different states and none had a tire...
