Hi all - trying to prove that I am not a bot but made out of organic tissue here.

Sounds like something a bot would say. But welcome. If a bot rides a S10, I say welcome the bots! Congratulations in the upcoming new S10. Eville Rich 2016 S10

    Radiator cowl bolts - argggh

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think it was a bolt or thread issue. I think it's either an issue with how the plastics are sitting, or an issue between my ears. I may return to do battle and get the OE bolt to work, but I may just monitor things or see what I can find in a slightly longer...

    Radiator cowl bolts - argggh

I threw in the towel on the last OE bolt. Ended up using a M5 20mm bolt on the last one. The last one to give me trouble was the bolt hole closest to the seat - upper right if looking at the cowl from the side. The 20mm was a bit longer than I'd have liked, but with a couple of washers wasn't...

    Radiator cowl bolts - argggh

I'll try a screwdriver for back-pressure. My initial problem one was the front bolt, above the lowest bolt. I couldn't find a way to get around to the back side, other than on the black plastic piece - it's a barrier to the actual threaded clip. Weather is getting good and last night's rain...

    Radiator cowl bolts - argggh

I feel like the biggest idiot, but I'm having a devil of a time getting the bolts that hold the radiator cowl. These are the 4mm allen head bolts that you can see from the side (plus one at the top). Last fall I needed to remove the cowl and was able to get all but one reinserted and happy...

    WTB: Metal Lathe -please read-

Here you go. Maybe you can find a nice property in northern WI that's getting auctioned for tax delinquency. Or a bulldozer. https://wisconsinsurplus.com/ Eville Rich

    WTB: Metal Lathe -please read-

Not sure if this helps, but we have a "surplus auction" company in WI. They get all sorts of random stuff from tech schools, municipalities, school distircts, closing businesses, and such ( hey, want to buy a lot of 100 school chairs?). I didn't see a lathe in the current offers, but there may...

Lithium-Ion batteries, EVs, and myth busting

Can we bring horses back? Can you imagine the freakout when the first fossil fuel fires happened in ICE cars? For the record, I don't want a horse or want to clean up after the emissions of a horse.

Tablet based Nav, Non-Garmin / TomTom / (NAV)

This is a great discussion and I'm interested in learning more. I'm all about navigation improvements, especially for off-road or customizing routes. I started to look into Gaia as a result of this thread and am intrigued. Something I'm wondering about - given a tablet-based approach, how are...

    Windscreen choice

A few reasons: 1) It offers the ability to adjust the tilt of the windscreen, not just height. Basically, more opportunity for customization. 2) I like the crossbar better than the OEM. Slightly wider diameter and feels a bit more solid. But honestly, it's been a long time since had the OEM one...

    Windscreen choice

I've got a California Scientific and it's been my favorite so far. No recommendation on height. I'm 6 feet and think I have the tall version. Cut back the turbulence for touring riding. I've got a shorter Madstadt in the garage byt it didn't do it for me. Keeping it around for now for hot...

How misinformation has slowly help kill the 1200XTZ

I think we'll see some big improvements in battery technology coming out. Solid state batteries appear to be entering the market and with Toyota behind it, it's probably pretty good tech. Having twice the capacity and very fast charge times gives me some optimism for motorbikes and other power...

    THREAD DRIFT/BLOAT - discussion

What's your favorite oil? I've used Motul, T6, and Yamalube. But I think the real trick is the right tires. And using mismatched spark plugs. Really make S-mode smooth when I'm not in a hurry and just contributing to thread drift and bloat. As human computer I prefer to respond as personal...

Looking for a place in the UK to buy a right caliper speed bleeder SB8125LL

I've got Sooed Bleeders all around on the S10 and other bikes. For folks looking for vendors or size confirmation, the challenges people have expressed on this thread are par for the course. The Speed Bleeder website directory seems out of date. I found an alternative on RevZilla, but you have...

Any interest in oil test of AmsOil at 12,800 miles

The fuel dilution is interesting. Did you experience any oil consumption in that interval? I found some on a similarly loaded ride, but at a much shorter interval. For my current annual riding pattern, I'm still doing one oil change per year (4k to 5k each year). That trip was the only time I...

The next chapter...KTM Super Adventure S

I'm not sure if it was this thread or one of the ADV threads, but I did a bit of reading around the "single cylinder" at startup issue. There seemed to be something tied to getting the fuel system cleaned out of manufacturing residue that some thought made a difference. Like a full-on dealer...

I was thinking of a float for the fuel level sender. Definitely no floats for fuel injection. Thankfully.

That speed and rpm would help. Wind resistance is a killer - every doubling of speed requires an eight-fold increase in power. I had my worst mileage ever going across northern Iowa last year. Fully loaded, with a headwind at 20-30 mph and riding 65-70 mph. Awful. I'm going to have to see...
