What might cause a low-speed front end wobble when coasting?

I've recently returned from a thousand mile tour of SO Oregon/NORCAL and discovered a new quirk in my bike. Anytime I'd coast down from 35-50mph -hands-off the bars- the bike's front end would wobble back & forth slightly while decelerating. Accelerating it goes away. Hold the bars, it's...

First Shaft Drive, Seal Failing - Can I ride it 1,500 miles?

26K on a 2012, final drive weeping getting worse, now leaves a few drips after a ride. QUANDARY: Dealer can get me in next week, but needs 7-10 days for parts. My buds just invited me on a 5-day tour [Portland to NORCAL], leaving in 2 weeks. The dealer, in Beaverton, says Yamaha can rush the...

Shifter jammed into vertical position on tour

I had my first "accident" after eight-years as a returning rider. I was on tour and fatigued from a long day that included being caught in snow/sleet storm at 7,000 feet for 70 miles when it happened. A 0 MPH tip-over. My stubby legs, and a lack of assertiveness while I was attempting a...

Motor quits, then gets stuck at 3-4,000 RPM once restarted

My friend's new (used) Super-T is already giving him fits. After a day of riding, it stalled while moving and refused to restart. Then, as the story goes, the motor wouldn't drop below 3-4,000 RPM's for his remaining ride home. Any ideas what to check first?

    GARMIN 2597 - Any Good?

The weather (snow) finally killed my Garmin Nüvi 1490LMT. I am looking for another cheap Garmin to replace it. Garmin rep suggested the 2597 or new "Drive" series 51 or 61 (or older 50 or 60). An Amazon reviewer said the 50 (or 51) screen was not visible with his polarized glasses. I wear...

    $9900 NEW 2013

Freight and set-up included. WoW. (Ride Motorsports, Woodinville, WA.). It's the ugly white one but, at that price, who cares!

What's the difference between TC2 and an ECU reflash

Or is it TC1? Kidding aside, reducing the traction control livens the bike up. What's the diff?

Crush washers/gaskets and other schools of thought

Thought I had stashed a few extra crush washers before changing my oil, coolant and final drive... but found I didn't have any extras for replacements. On-line, at Yamaha parts house, each "gasket" (crush washer in my vocabulary) is $2.95 [WWTDCM?] Question is, since I've already changed...

    Thanks! I did it!

Just wanted to thank all the contributors here. I spent the afternoon working on my bike with tips from this forum! I changed my oil, final drive and engine coolant. I'm at about 21K and she was in need of some love. Good news, everything is solid with that bike. Thanks for making it easy...

Route Suggestions: Portland Oregon to Glacier National Park, MT.

Other then, "Camping," I don't see a better spot to post this… (for quick replies, anyway). I'm planning a trip to the "Going to the Sun" road in Glacier National Park, (from Portland, OR) for my fiend, Brian and I. We've only got 4 1/2 days. East of Walla Walla, I'm in new territory. I...

    Suspension Set-up: stutter bump traction

Hi Lads, Fresh in from a weekend ride in the woods, I found myself contemplating suspension settings again. My tires were searching for traction a bit too often… even for worn-out Metzlers ;). When climbing gravel roads and encountering "stutter bumps" I hear some metal clacking and the...

    I got a clatter

…at cold start-up. I hear a light metallic clatter, coming from the front of the engine case, at idle +500 RPM's. I subdues in 2-3 minutes but only really disappears into the background after a few minutes of riding, warming the engine. I don't hear it every time. I changed the oil a couple...

Does Anyone use Photo-chromatic / Transition Prescription Glasses while Riding?

Hey all, A couple of years back, I began wearing progressive reading glasses for the finest of print, especially in low-light conditions. Today, I am finding they are also helpful at night, and in the rain, while both driving and riding. I can see the dash better when I wear my readers, read...

Warped Front Rotors- machine or replace?

At appx. 13,000 miles I detected a slight vibration with mild front brake application. I suspect it's a warped rotor. I'm surprised by this and am wondering if, A) others have experienced this and, B) if it would be better to have the rotor turned or replaced (I'm at 15,000 now). If replaced...

    Metallic "ticking" at 3,000-3,200 RPM

9,000 miles in, and I have a distinct metallic ticking sound coming from the engine at only 3,000 to 3,200 RPM - then it goes away. I'm no mechanic, but I'm guessing it sounds like valves? Anyone care to chime-in with their two-cents worth?

Barrel Adjuster on Throttle Cable Maxed-Out, now What?

At around 3000 miles, I adjusted the throttle cable barrel adjuster. With only 3-4 turns left before the two ends separate, I asked the dealer to adjust the cable during my last service visit (which happened to be for a throttle body sync.) The mechanic noted there was no adjustment available...

    CHEAP Tank Guard?

My gloss black tank's clear coat is rubbed off at the knees. Need a recommendation for a cheap tank guard, here in the USA. I'm afraid the fat foam like Tech Spec will make a wide tank too wide. Thinking of simple clear 2mm plastic…? Pre-cut or otherwise. I've had no good luck w/Google search.

    Trouble Using the Center-Stand

This is my first big bike, and first bike with center-stand; I can't get 'er up! Any tips? My technique: I was facing the kickstand side of the bike, left hand near the handle bar clamp, right hand on the passenger grab rail. In neutral, I get a slight roll going backwards, then step down...
