To close this thread, I had an extra rubber cover, cut it down to fill the gap, and superglued it to the box. Now I feel more confident some of the weight is being transferred to the lower brace. Took it on a 3000 mile trip last week and it worked as expected. Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
