Throttle twist tension...

Hey all,
Only have mine for a reference but just feels like the throttle doesn't have the right amount of twist tension. If I ride over some undulating bitumen road or a light bump, the throttle will twist around giving me either a burst of power or complete back off in power. If I were driving a car, it would be the equivalent of slapping the accelerator pedal on and off.
It has the Oxford Heated Grips installed and they were installed when new by the previous owner back in 2014.
Is this normal or should there be a bit more resistance to twisting so easily? It's not so bad on the road but when I go off road on the trails it becomes dangerously difficult to predict and even a small bump or rock can cause me a lot of grief.
Any suggestions?
Regards
P.

Sounds normal to me. Many members don't like the way the throttle feels/reacts. Have you tried "T" mode? It slows the throttle down a bit, and might help. You might have to get it "flashed", like many have, to fix the problem.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Already had the ECU flashed and the mapping redone and usually ride in T mode around the streets and S mode on the highway.
I thought it may be the heated grips or the springs for the throttle cable becoming a bit slack...
I'm going to take the Speed controller off and give it a clean inside as the potentiometer can have a build up of muck which can cause it to be a bit jittery in acceleration. Other than that...not sure what else I can try...it just feels a bit too free and easy to twist at the slightest amount of pressure.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers

Make sure to adjust the slack out of the throttle cables and try a relaxed, loose grip on bumpy surfaces. It also sounds like the flash you had done was not tuned to address this problem. Many "canned" flashes just remove all the restrictions but really don't do anything to smoothen throttle application. My first tune was a standard "canned" Flash Tune one and I did not feel it addressed the abrupt throttle well enough so I had it re-flashed by Anthony and it was a night a day difference.

after 2 years of complaining about my 2019 throttle and how jerky it is ..... try adjusting the throttle free play , I had lots of slop I thought was about normal (maybe 18mm of play ) turned the adjuster (now a couple of mm of free play ) the bike is so much better in first and second gear when slow riding .... the adjuster is a couple of inches from the throttle , turn it clockwise a few turns and see if the free play starts to go away. then let us know how it goes.

Unfortunately I've done/tried all of the suggestions so I guess it's just the way these are. I just don't recall it being quite this free on the Kawasaki I had previously. I know it's a completely different bike but...I'd just like a bit more resistance
Maybe I can work something out and post it here if it works.
Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments.
Much appreciated!

The guy who owned it before me had it done by a group in Melbourne. Not only did they flash the ECU but as he was touring with his wife around Europe for 5 months, he had the engine mapping done to suit the additonal weight the bike would be carrying through the streets (so more power early) and also the after market exhaust. He also builds/rebuilds and races cars and bikes from scratch in Targa events so I know he knows more than most. He is not short of cash either. He spent over $11k having work done on the bike and for accessories... which I was very happy with when I bought it.
He is also a great customer of mine and I know the history of the bike quite well.
A bit of track but I don't believe the flashed ECU is the issue. I will clean the throttle position sensor just in case but apart from that, there's not a lot it would appear that I can do to change it.

Maybe the previous owner replaced the throttle tube? I've read of others wanting to change how the throttle feels by changing the tube out. Maybe he clipped a coil or two off the throttle return springs on the throttle servo? I've never felt the twitchy throttle on my '12.

Believe it or not, I overcame this problem on my Zx14r accidentally when I had the suspension tuned. Now the forks absorb the shock properly and I don’t need to keep adjusting throttle
