Here are the last three sets of Tires that I have ran on my 2014.

The Rear ones, in order from (Right to Left) and the mileage on them when removed.

Mitas E07-Plus Dakar 150/70-17 : 6480-miles
Shinko 805 150/70-17 : 7459-miles
Mitas E07 Dakar 140/80-17 : 9603-miles

The Front tires, from (Left to Right) and the mileage when removed.
The left Front one went through two rear tires.

Mitas E07 Dakar 110/80-19 : 13,939-miles
Mitas E07 Dakar 100/90-19 : 9603-miles

This last set, I really abused them!
They took me on a fully-loaded 9-day Utah Trip last September, and a fully-loaded 17-day Idaho Trip this summer.

They were ridden quite hard at times on both pavement and dirt, and produced this strange wear-pattern.

The rear was a bit squirmy when leaned-over at the limit.

Just under 13mm of carcass thickness in the center on a tread-block.

About 8.5mm thickness in between the tread-blocks.

About 8.5mm of carcass thickness in the center of a tread-block
I did not measure between the tread-blocks.
This is definitely the thinnest and lightest of the tires I have ran.
This tire also provided the best dry pavement grip.
It was my least favorite on dirt however, especially when on a side-hill............The really wide center blocks would allow the tire to slide a lot more.

The Mitas E07 Dakar
9603-miles

IMG_0669.JPG

IMG_0670.JPG

Around 12.5mm of carcass thickness in the center, even at 9603-miles.
You can see how this tire is beefed-up with extra layers of chords.
If I was riding to Tuktoyuktuk, this is the tire I would choose!

Also, there are no metal chords/bands in any of these tires. Synthetic fibers only.
Only steel is in the Bead of the tires.

That picture of the Mitas E07 Dakar makes me leery about riding on wet pavement. It looks like that solid center would quickly hydroplane.

I ride a lot "Milder" in the wet. I never had any issues with hydroplaning.
While I was in the Black Hills, rode through one helluva thunderstorm with heavy rain and wind. Did not feel sketchy at all.................except for the lightning.

I've ridden all three of these rears, and have similar mileage and experience. My recent Shinko experiment did not go well, as I returned them with premature cracks by the knobs, and the front was uncomfortably noisy. A couple others had punctures at the Black Hills rally, they are really soft. A new full set of E07+ Dakars on their way. My current E07 Dakar front has lasted through three rears. I don't practice my emergency stops enough. The + version seems to get 70-75% of the originals.

Tried the Mitas Dakar’s for our attempt at Tuktoyaktuk but never made it because of BMW issue .
Next attempt I will probably try Metzler Tourance

I've had the same experiences with those three.

The prices here in Canuckistan, the 805 is the easy winner. I solved the lack of side bite by cutting grooves in the bigger blocks. That made a big difference, I tell ya.

Currently on my second set of Trailmax Missions. Definitely the mileage winner.

If the border opens, then I'm getting some more Motoz tires shipped in to upstate NY so i can pick them up. Our importer has them at twice the cost. So I'm gonna buy two sets, hopefully before winter. They make great winter tires.

Alan,
So of the three, which tire would you recommend for a 90/10 style rider?

If I was forced to choose between only those three, I would choose the Shinko 805. It was my favorite of the three on pavement.
There are much better tires out there better suited for 90/10 style riding. (the Shinko 705 for instance)
I seek out more dirt than that usually, but I'm currently running the Dunlop Trailmax Missions and so far I am loving them on pavement!

Alan,

I looked at the 705's, and every dealer here I spoke with tried to scare me not to buy them. I think I will be buying the Metzler Tourance tires which seem to have positive reviews and a re a 85/15 tire.

Thanks for your response.

As anybody bought a set of E07 Daker’s lately and where did you get them at?

You can pm me if you don’t want to make it public
Bought mine off Amazon this spring and they were shipped from twisted throttle.

@Mak10: did you have any trouble getting items shipped from twisted throttle? I have never purchased from them before. I usually stick to local dealers or Revzilla, and Rocky Mountain ATV. Thanks.

I’ve bought directly from Twisted, and they were great. Except right after someone started charging prepaid phone minutes to the credit card I used. Hadn’t used that card anywhere else for a while. Coincidence???
I like Amazon’s return policy. And it was the same price. So I went with Amazon.

The credit card thing was an inconvenience, but easily taken care of. I don’t buy things online with a debit card.

+1, Recently returned some Shinko's, no questions asked. I does bug me a bit that you will rarely get the Front and Rear from the same place. Two separate shipments..
