Apparently, Roxy Music or Brian Ferry at least asked two German fans to pose for the album cover above. This album cover was not allowed to be sold in USA and was sold showing just the foliage with no girls on it!

But this thread is about album covers not the band or music right?
I had considered this distinction after viewing some rather bland album covers in this post. I have come to the conclusion that album cover art and the music contained within are for ever linked together, inseparable. When I think of Abby Road, I both hear the music and see the album cover art in my mind.
I can't image a more bland album cover than The Beatles (White Album) and I do have a difficult time thinking of it as art. But it is a matter of perception, can you focus your hearing on the spaces between the notes or ignore the leaves and see through the tree?

I think the introduction of cds killed some of the art. LPs were, by and large, designed to draw the audience in. The advert to pick it up. That, and something to roll a joint on back in the day. CDs were less visually appealing.

One of THE best ever ''adverts'' in LP covers IMHO was Bob Marley's "Catch A Fire" Zippo lighter cover, that opened the same as a Zippo. Still, Chris Blackwell (Island Records) - from the Crosse & Blackwell clan - knew a fair bit about advertising.
