Regarding the S-10, Yamaha needs an update to stay competitive in the market. Everyone else now has LED lighting, along with additional lights for corning. Yes, the S-10 is priced below other bikes, but this class of motorcycles are very popular and without an update I'm afraid Yamaha will lose potential buyers which will hurt all of us in the end. JMHO

Can't disagree with this.
Yamaha has always been at the front of the innovation train, I think we need to be patient and we will see great things.

Yep, the reason I don't own a Tenere today. If Yamaha had updated the bike, I'd probably have one. But when I was ready for something new the only Tenere available was the same one I had... in a different color.

Can't say I won't be back. However, I've seen a whole lot of updated, great stuff on the new ride. Yamaha has a ton of room to step up and make things better. Somehow I don't think they can do anything other than play catch up, and lag behind in their effort. I'd love to be wrong about that.

I don't think a totally new bike is necessary either. But. . . a few modern upgrades would make it a much nicer and modern bike. Personally, I would like to see modern LED lighting, and an upgraded instrument display. A pre packaged option like the Raid edition would be like icing on the cake for me. Time will tell. Any idea when the 2021 will be released?

I predict a 1200 cross plane triple, radiator relocated to front, updated electronics and a diet.
yup get rid of the crazy twin cylinder engine, better headlights , better gearing, better paint job, it will be interesting.

Be careful what you wish for. The GL1800 riders were crying about no new updated model year after year, then in 2018 it came out. Has LED headlights, $2000.00 if anything goes wrong with it. Smaller and lighter, storage capacity cut 35%, bad seat to replace the previous one which was fine. Much worse wind protection. Cheap radio to replace the good quality one used previously. Keyless starting, which has stranded numerous riders. Combined starter/alternator. $2000.00 for it as well. Takes 6hrs to change the coolant as half the bodywork needs removed. Change oil and many reports of "check engine" light. Hill start assist that doesn't work and cannot be shut off. They did add a 6sp manual which is a good thing, but everyone wants the DCT so the only good feature that actually was a big improvement is pretty much a moot point. More problems in 3yr production than in the whole 16yr the older one was built.
Makes me sick to even think what a 2017 GL1800 was, then look at the new one.

I agree. I had a 2012 GW and liked it. If they would have just put in a 6 speed transmission it would have been better. But Honda completely redesigned it and Its nothing like the previous model. Technology cost. Light bulbs are cheap. LED lighting assemblies are not. Sometimes manufacturers can go too far trying to update. I think in the GW's case they did. My wife has a 2018 GW. I have ridden it several times. I'm not a fan. . .

If Yamaha updated the engine to a triple, and added more whiz-bang electronics, and chopped the weight down, and invested a whole lot of money into other changes, then I doubt they'd call the bike a "Super Tenere", since it would basically be a new bike. I don't think they'd want to saddle the new bike with the name of an old bike that, in all reality, probably hasn't been a big seller for Yamaha.

My guess is that Yamaha has made just enough money on the S10 to keep it in production, but not enough to make it worthwhile to do a lot of upgrading. The popularity of the S10's little brother probably makes it even less likely that you'll see any changes to the Super Tenere.

Hmmmm. . . . you might be onto something. The Yamaha website calls it the Super Tenere. But, on the bike itself, it says Tenere 1200 that shows as T12. It's little cousin is listed as a Tenere 700 on the website, says Tenere 700 on the bike, and shows to be the T7. The next step would ne to drop the name Tenere entirely, just going by the alphanumeric designator. Which would be easy if they make the engine change that y'all are hoping for. They now have the MT-03, 07, 09, and 10. With the T7 being the template, will there be a T3, 9, and 10 joining it? You'd have the MT line for street, and the T line for "adventuring".

Because there's not really much similarity between the T7 & T12. It's much closer Yamaha's "dual sport" offerings.
