A friend of mine has a flashing brake light on his bike. The flashing gets to me riding with him. It's too Bright. Especially at dark. A Louisiana cop told him to get rid of it because it was a distraction. YMMV
I set it to a couple very quick flashes then solid. Because I agree.

Dog seems happy, wife, still working on it...

Lawn looks GREAT, btw. ;) And nice far pit. I've just got a little metal one. F'ing humidity is not making it that comfy for a fire right now though.

See the Golden doodle. I was leaving on a 3 week trip. She was not happy. At the time we had 2 dogs. While I was leaving she complained about not having friends down here And I was a shit for leaving her. I said In DC there is an old saying you want a friend get a dog. When I got back I was surprised to see we now have 3 dogs. :)

Yes, I drilled through the plastic on the console for the bottom of the arms, and also through the circular metal joint on the windscreen support for the top mounting point. This setup keeps things in a permanent position e.g. I can't adjust the windscreen. That's fine by me b/c it's perfect where it is. I actually added spacers behind the windshield to move it forward 1.5" and steepen the angle as well. This is why I made my home-brew stabilizers; there is a fella on here who sells some beefy stabilizers that allow you to adjust the windscreen as well, but they wouldn't work for me because of my spacer mod.

Can you show some pictures of where you added spacers for the windshield? I looked at doing it on my S 10 however, the spacers push the windshield back on an angle, and longer screws will not work. Can you gave me some details please? Thanks

I rode to work. But that's not the good story. The good story is about this past weekend, and has been 2 years in the making.

I bought my 2012 S10 nearly a year ago after about a year of research. I'm 56 years old, and the S10 the first motorcycle I've ever owned. My wife and I dubbed him "Hercule." I bought Hercule so we could begin traveling 2-up. (Video explaining why we wanted to try this.) I spent last year getting my license and then getting comfortable with what—to me—was a HUGE bike. By last fall I was feeling quite good about being able to handle the bike...I put about 4k or 5k on it. A lot of the miles were very early morning rides all over Chicago (where we live). I loved exploring parts of the city I had never seen before. I'd select somewhere I'd never been before and headed off. Someone on this forum actually told me last year that city riding was the best way to become good at handling a bike—lots of stopping, starting, cornering and "dealing with stuff." He was right. I also did one weekend solo camping trip which was the highlight of my summer.

This spring I felt I was finally "proficient" on the S10. Hercule was feeling less huge and more manageable and comfortable every ride. I was comfortable enough to have my wife finally join me. After buying her riding gear and a com system, we were ready to go.

Last weekend was our first 2-up ride!

It went better then I could have ever dreamed. My wife was a bit nervous having had a very bad experience on the back of a motorcycle in India long ago (a very long story, and no I was not the driver). As soon as we got going, she said that it wasn't bad! We chose a slightly twisty road and in the first few turns she was not comfortable with the required leaning, but that quickly got better and soon it was like we'd been doing this for years. By the end of our short 42 mile ride, we were discussing taking our first camping trip on Hercule.

What blew me away was how little impact she had on the bike. Neither of us are small people and I assumed it was going to take me quite a while to get used to having that additional weight on the back. I did boost the preload on the stock shock before we took off. Within a block of leaving our house, I told her that I couldn't believe how little the handling, acceleration, and braking had changed with her on the bike. I'm now even more convinced that my year of research paid off, and a 2012 S10 was the right choice!

So, I'm feeling like we took a huge step this weekend and am really psyched to be putting more miles on Hercule with my wife on the back.

Oil and filter change and staring at the front trying to envision a cornering light solution. Maybe something mounted to the forks, replacing one of the fender mounting bolts? Hmmm..

I backed off of the preload for the first time. I've been using two helmets, and it's worked well. BUT, I've been using a different set of roads to go to town. These roads are paved. . . . but I've been down dirt/gravel roads that are smoother. Potholes, patched potholes, sudden dips/rises, and plenty of gravel at weird places. I had changed the rebound/dampening to "hard". It actually smoothed out the ride; less pogo-ing. I had an inspiration, and changed the preload to one helmet + luggage. It was still a nice, firm ride, and still cornered wonderfully. But, the harsh edge to the bumps had been reduced quite a bit. I am definitely not a suspension guru, but those of you that have switched to "heavier" springs, must have awesomely smooth roads. :)

Elricfate: Do the crash bar bags put any more heat on your left legs?
I'll let you know when I get a chance to ride it. I can tell you that my pegs, extending my legs further forward and up just a touch, did just that. I imagine I won't feel much of anything while moving.
