Does anyone use an Alaska Sheepskin seat pad? Thinking I’m going to try one and wondering if they help on high mileage days? The woman was super helpful to talk to on the phone so that’s a good start. I was noticing that a lot of airliners use sheepskin on the pilot/copilot seat. Must mean something?

Seats and seat pads are a very personal choice. What works for one rider will be pure torture for another. Personally for me the OEM seat is perfect for anything up to around 300 miles. After that I slap on my AirHawk. I have had this same seat cover for over 12 years and have used it on 3 different bikes.

For the price it might be worth a shot:

I am one that the sheepskin is torture to me. Bought one on a trip, and it felt great for the first hundred miles or so. After that, I was standing going down the freeway until the first exit. Never have I been that uncomfortable before on the bike. Gave it to my ex after that.

I, personally, use it when I am taking trips and it's either very hot or very cold. I picked it up from an etsy seller a little while back: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DanishHomeDeco

Edit to add: I also got some of the ones from Ikea that are insanely inexpensive, I've used them before on the bike and they were fine too. I use them on my chair in my work room now.

I have the Alaska Sheepskin from Alaska Leather. It works very well for me. I don't think all sheepskin seat covers are the same. Alaska Leather builds a good one. On long trips I do rotate the sheepskin on & off. I'll ride with it for a while and then ride without it for a while. It always feels good to put it back on.

I have a set I used on my fjr cross country and it worked well for me. I havent used it on the tenere yet but the seats are similar.

I have one I use in longer rides and in my XR250L. Everide (YouTuber you should know if you ride especially off road) has a store got a Australian Sheep skin for like $40 shipped I believed. It makes a difference it's no custom made seat or anything but it does increase my comfortable miles.

ballisticexchris,
Is the Alaska Leather link above that you provided the exact sheepskin / buttpad that you are currently using and recommend?
Also, which AirHawk type/size is best for an OEM S10 seat?
Thanks in advance.

My Alaskan Leather sheep skin pad turns my stock FJR and Tenere seat from a 4 to 500 mile seat per day into a easy 800 or 1000 mile per day seat. It gives me just the extra comfort and breath ability I need for big days on the bike.

My dad had a sheepskin cover on a 1984 Goldwing, don't know the brand, some are probably better than others. On his motorcycle it made for a really slippery seating surface that I just couldn't stand. I finally owned the bike and took it off and found the comfort better without it by far.

No I'm not using a sheep skin. My AirHawk is the Cruiser Medium. I fits the Super Tenere perfect.

I've always liked Sheepskins and they work for me, the Bead Rider didn't. Gel pads worked for me too but then I tried a Skwoosh pad, I like this better than a sheep skin or gel. Air Hawks or similar I don't like and raised me too high to be effective.
The Adcox seat on the ST doesn't need anything but I have used a sheepskin in the winter for a warmer seat.
My K75 has a Corbin and I always have the Skwoosh or my Saddleman Gel on it, sometimes both.

BTW, I may have a spare $heepskin if interested.

Hi there Richard, The trick to the AirHawk is to set the air so your butt is almost touching the seat. Another tip is to remove it when doing a lot of fast canyon roads. Mine is strictly for super-slab days in the saddle and mellow relaxing slow rides through the turns.

Yeah I've done and heard all about it. Just never suited me, like the Bead Rider never did and many riders swear by it too. Butts are like opinions.....glad it works for you.

I have the mid-size, being skeptical, it worked good on the stock ST seat and I was using it on my K75 too, it covers the Corbin better and more importantly the sit-bones but I think a larger one would fit better on the Adcox seat. I'm also 5'7" #185, 34" waist.
