Since were talking about paint, does anybody know what color the engine is called? And, is the engine painted, or anodized? I'm leaning towards anodized.

Looking through the service manual, I see nothing about a paint code. There is a reference to the VIN number and there is a "Model Label." The Model Label is under the seat, on the left side, right up next to the tank. On my blue 2018 ST, the Model Label reads "BP84-010". Under that is the letter "A".

According to the official Yamaha Service Manual, Super Tenere, 2014-2018: "Model Label. The model label is affixed to the frame under the rider seat. This information will be needed to order spare parts."

Well, if you have the original "casing" for the service book and manual, the colour is on there.
But I doubt that you can use it to much, unless it is a Yamaha dealer...I don't think it can be translatet to a RAL code.
Mine is mat black, and have the Yamaha code MDNM6

I used touchupdirect when I needed to fix a small dent in a '92 Honda 250 tank. The "perfect match" did not match very well, so I had to paint the whole tank and apply new decals. But the paint was pretty good quality, other than the color.

If you did the re-paint relatively recently, the paint may have been a perfect match....in '92. There are parts on my ol' FJ that have faded quite a bit. And she stays indoors. If your Honda has spent much time in the sun, that's probably the cause of the mismatch.

That Honda spent its entire life in the garage. Paint on the underside of the tank was the same color as the top. The dent was bumping the tank when I was draining it to put fresh gas in to sell the bike that never got used. Only 2,000 miles on that bike after 20+ years. My wife didn't take to riding a bike much. The paint from touchupdirect just wasn't a very close match. Close enough so the tank and side panels didn't look odd, but not close enough for a touch up on a single panel.
