Hi SkunkWorks, have you mounted the 140 yet? The idea of getting another "classic" E-07 appeals to me

I haven't actually bought this tire yet...........................
Long-story, but I had some issues with dizzyness and vision for most of the summer (had Labyrinthitis)
I ended up not riding much, until later when I felt better.
I was in a hurry to get a new tire in August, and Performance Cycle was out of stock on the Mitas 140/80-17 so I ended up just getting a cheap Shinko 805 for the rear in stock size.
I will definitely be revisiting the Mitas E07 Dakar in the spring, so will post up an update then.

Yes, best wishes to be healthy. I was at Performance cycle a couple weeks back for their street bike sales event, and saw they did have the 140/80-17 in stock. I think it was like $140 even before discount for the sale. Mitas price can't be beat for what they are, too bad they didn't leave things the frick alone.

Thank you Chris.
I am mostly back to the way I was before. I would say, as normal as I can be I suppose.
It sure did suck there for a little while.

I was in there as well a couple weeks ago. I did see they had the tire back in stock. I may just pick one up and hang on to it until I need to mount it.

Ressurecting this thread...
Sounds like no one has tried the 140/80.
If Mitas doesn't start making the rear E07 Dakar in the Tenere size (probably unlikely, unfortunately), I'm trying the 140/80. Per the tire calculator link posted in an earlier thread, the difference is about 1/2" in diameter and less than 1/2" in width (the 140/80 being taller and narrower). TO ME, the difference is negligible. Heck, one may find these discrepancies in different brands, styles of tires and during wear. I'm on knobbies now and find the off-road advantages are slim if even noticeable (the Tenere is not a motocross bike). I tried the new E07+, while ok it just isn't like the old version as a great "all-around" tire. I'll likely make the move this spring.

Mitas E07+ Dakar $145 w/free shipping.

Set for $299.95 w/free shipping.

And I think you're correct, they won't be making the old E07 Dakar in S10 sizes any time soon, if ever again. Still, the E07+ Dakar is better than the regular E07+.

Used old style E07. I don't think it's a Dakar version and I wouldn't pay that price for a used tire, but you could message them an offer if you were interested. LINK

Hi there Eric, There is no such thing as the E07+ in the Dakar version. The Ebay link is a photoshop pic.

I don’t get it!

A manufacturer builds a machine, be it a car or a motorcycle, tests the machine and fits the appropriate tyres for the use of that machine and yet people want to fit non-standard size, non-approved tyres which can affect your road worthiness and insurance and ultimately your safety.

Why, after spending a considerable amount of money on your vehicle of choice would you compromise yourself? Just to save a few £s/$s/€s!
You would have an aneurism if you saw some of my bikes. I've been known to build motors that make more power than stock, put different size wheels on, and even screw with frame geometry.

Why? Because it's how I get my grins.

To the OP, I've run that tire in the past and it worked fine for me. 1 up, light loads.

The first listing link for a single rear tire is an image of the tire, not a picture that has been photoshoped. The second listing link for a pair shows a picture. Mitas does sell the E07+ Dakar, even though they do not specifically show it on their web site. I've seen these in person in the past.

Trouble with the E07+ is it doesn't last long, and the long lasting was one of the major high points of the original E07. I was one that was going to use the E07 Dakar in 140/80 but went and looked at it and it looks way narrower than 1/2" that it is in spec. I may still run it, but haven't made up my mind. I like narrow tires, but next to the 150/70 E07+ there looked to be about an inch difference in width, but after mounting on a wheel things may look different.

Wore out a set of the old Mitas Dakar’s and was pretty well satisfied with the performance and the 10,000 mile life.
The reported much shorter life of the redesigned Mitas makes me think I might try the Dunlop Mission next time instead, about $280 for a set and supposedly free mounting.

The Mission looks like a great choice.

Thanks for the correction/clarification.
Did I see a review somewhere you did on Metzler Karoo 3’s?

Also... emailed Mitas, got a response and responded back. I’ll post up when I hear back.

No, no review from me on Karoo 3's. That's not a tire I have tried. Looks interesting, but I think the price in our sizes always kept me away.

I look forward to seeing what Mitas says. Some people I spoke to in the distributor networks said they saw some, then hadn't been able to order them, but that was a while back. Initially they did not offer the E07+ in the Dakar version, but a release stated they planned to do so for the sizes they don't offer the original E07 Dakar in. The only cautionary wording I've seen is that if you mix Dakar and non-Dakar versions, you should put the Dakar on the rear.

From Revzilla, must be a coincidence?

2nd Set

At first I thought the tread went out quickly on the back tire. I do ride fairly aggressively. I have taken this guys through deep mud & dirt. They are super solid tires ~

Some other Eric V. I always capitalize the V and would not characterize myself as an aggressive rider. I've run Kenda Big Blocks, (mostly for off pavement), PR4 Trails, Pirelli Angel GTs, lots of Heidenau K60s, Mitas E07 Dakar (original version), Anakee 3s, the OEM Bridgestones and the OEM ones that came on my '12 that sucked in the wet, (forgotten what version they were). I think that's about it on the S10.

I'm planning on mounting it this spring sometime...............I'll post up when I do.
